I was way too young when 2Pac was alive and kicking, and now I just find his music unrelatable and uninspiring. I'm sure he is an icon to some, but I've never been able to get into his music.
Norway, blah, blah, murder, blah, blah, blood.

Here's an idea... let me run this by everyone. People, have different opinions on which artists they like listening to right? And pretty much everyone has a rapper that they enjoy the most, they consider him to the "the best" or "the goat"... still following me? good, here's where it gets tricky-
SOMETIMES, these OPINIONS are different from one another, and not everybody recognizes the same person as "the best". SOME people will like Pac's music the most, and other people will like OTHER ARTISTS. Arguing opinions is not something that is productive. Different opinions are different.

2pac doesn't appeal to me. He never did.

And it didn't happen because I went thru some hate train or anything.
I've heard him around the time I was discovering Eminem.
If he was that good, he would've called my attention.
Same with a big deal of rappers that came and went to my knowledge since I started downloadin music.

However, some of his songs are truly gems. I won't deny he did good.

You're not going to be able to truly appreciate Tupac unless you came from the background he raps about in his songs and can relate to where he's coming from. That's why he was so powerful with them and won't have the same impact on suburban kids.
You think your personal attacks make up for what you lack?

this about sums it up. now, don't get me wrong, pac was revolutionary for his time, and what he did for the face of hiphop was necessary to say the least - but today's greats would bury him lyrically. it's like comparing davinci to ray kurzweil, one is clearly more advanced but he couldn't have gotten there without the work of his predecessors to build off of.

if you're talking about rhymes then I agree with you but to me rhymes have nothing to do with lyricism and I have a hard time believing that today's greats could bury him lyrically. His storytelling is still impressive, his imagery is still great and he had a lot of quotables

i can name some personal favorites, but most people here can. listing specific artists is just asking for this shit to go way off topic.

Thank you. and Nas is one of my favorite mcees

yep nas is 1 of my favorite mc's as well and i agree with class. Some people even consider nas boring and say he isn't versatile at all and sounds the same pretty much on every album, im not saying i agree with that but that's what a lot of people say that i know.

Trimss wrote:That's true, but I feel like Nas's concepts/stories and storytelling skills were above Pac's.

Nah, Pacs the king at story telling imo i'm pretty sure a lot of you guys haven't listened to pac properly and probably listened to a lot of his recent stuff that they put out that wasn't supposed be released the way it was and thats not fair because that wasnt pacs best.

Pacs 1st 3 albums are the albums you wanna listen too, nothing after that.

lol what?...Strictly 4 my niggaz, 2pacalypse now, (thug life), Me against the world?

We shouldn't consider his 4th and 5th albums which were his best by incredibly popular consensus, All eyez on me and the Makavelli album?

Since when are you the god of hip hop and why is that catching your attention is such a big deal? I ask you because you're making it seem that way with your comment.

You didn't quote my whole post just to get it out of context huh? :)

I said it before, I don't choose who to like.
It just happens.
That's the point of the topic.
I've heard a lot of rappers, few of them really deserve a spot to anybody (to be honest) but those who deserve a spot for millions of people really have to have somethin. They do really good music, enough to be recognized for many.

It's strange, but 2pac never amazed me to that point. I like some of his work, but somethin he lacks, I can't explain what. I'm not ignorant. I have background with music, I heard (and sometimes played) music of all kind my whole life. I think I can have a little based opinion, just like a lot of us here.

The point for me is kind of simple,
I like X I don't like.
I give every musician opportunity to catch me. 2pac didn't catch me. It's an opinion, not a fact. Nobody is unanimity. I don't think he is bad in any way just because I am not his fan...

Class is right, I probably lack background of Pac's music until today. But I enjoy a lot of music without knowing the background, just the because great music can be recognized as such without a lot of explanations, just by listenin'.

And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin

@ Big ray...
Oh well yeh aight I agree with that obviously im sure everyone knows those are his best...
I was just responding to u saying his first three albums shud be considered and nothing after that...musta just been a typo oopsies mcwoopsie..

and @ mathers.... no not really...obviously those 3 are all debatable but All eyz on me and the 7 day theory is when he peaked..
Me against the world is when I started listening to him and loved that album but Post Death Row his production, passion and energy got so intense. Don't like the beats on MATW. I hate old school beats all together tho. Never got into illmatic that much cuz of that either

Oh and post mortem I love Untill the end of time. His definite best collection after death
