Rapping and lyricism? (Just emphasizing this to show posters from one page ago that people ARE criticizing Ye's rapping)

No way.

His lyrics were lazy at times but his rapping (flow/delivery) was 10/10. "Y'all ***** cant fuck with me! Y'all ***** can't fuck with Ye, Y'ALL ***** CAN'T FUCK WITH YE, I MOVE MY FAMILY OUT THE COUNTRY SO YOU CAN'T SEE WHERE THEY STAY".

That is very engaging. Kanye always delivers his lines with passions and I really don't think the flows were lazy. Define a "lazy" flow. Did he stay on beat? Yes.... It's not lazy then. Maybe not innovative, but certainly not lazy.

His "rapping" (as opposed to lyricism) was great on this album.

I'll admit, I can't speak for the album as a whole but this post reminded me that Kanye's had his moments on this album flow-wise

I'd like to see an explanation on how the rapping was GOOD.

I agree... to make it clear I don't hate Kanye or whatever I'll just add he's an amazing artist overall though.

It's easier to rap shitty lyrics than stuff that it's actually good.... which is why Lil Wayne will never be able to re-record Illmatic. Who cares if you sound good if you're just rapping about nothing?

For an artist like Kanye West who seemingly put so much effort into making his music, you would expect better, wouldn't you?

His flow was okay I guess but obviously his lyrics and rapping sucked. This record is so fucking forgettable, I've played Symphony in H more times than I've played the whole Yeezus album. You'd expect Kanye West to come with THE BEST, stop making excuses for him. If you guys can call Eminem a shitty lyricist and rapper then Idk what the fuck you call Kanye. His rapping has never been particularly strong.

Kanye is NOT an MC. He is an artist. Eminem is an MC AND an artist.

I disagree... there were some moments of good flow but it was mostly lazy outbursts of delivery rather than tight awesome melodic flows...

I find his best rap-wise is 'Dark Fantasy', he actually has good flows on that album.

I don't find his rapping on Yeezus engaging; I like "New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead" and appreciate his vision and the overall effect/intent, but I find it his least engaging album. And find the rapping to be pretty poor... I think if he had stellar rapping and some better concepts, it could have been amazing, but to me... the hyperbole reaction to this album is absurd. To each his own.

"Not innovative, but certainly not lazy" is far from hyperbole. Unless of course you meant in general.

edit: nvm i think you meant in general.

OP, listen to his first three albums. Though he is average, his lyrics were light years ahead of today...his content now is all about range rover's, Mercedes, pussy, bitches, money, clothes, etc.

Songs like Roses, Family Business, Heard 'Em Say, Touch the sky, everything I am, etc made me a fan in the first place...there was heart and he was actually saying some shit.

Some if it was okay, for him.. Put him up against an actual hip hop artist and the lyrics are far below good. (I do like ye but he's hardly hip hop lettuce be real tea)

To say his rapping was good on a hiphop level lol just lol. :coffee:

First off, I like Yeezus. I appreciate it in the sense that its unique and doesn't sound like anything you'd hear from most main stream artists these days (However, a large part of that is due to the production)

As far as lyrics i can understand why people feel like he took a lazy approach.

" I just talked to Jesus, He said what up Yeezus!? I said shit I'm chillen. Trying to Stack these millions"

"I want to fuck you hard on the sink/ After that go and get you something to drink" - and the rest of the 2nd verse of Bound 2

There's a lot of lines i could quote but when I hear some of these I just think to myself " Did someone really write this? " because It honestly sounds like straight freestyle and he's saying w.e. happens to pop into his mind.

But like I said I enjoyed it for what it is. However, I'd still pick Graduation or MBDTF over this any day
