People of a genre are loyal. Rock fans like their arcade fire, R&B likes its Adele, Alternative likes its Nine Inch Nails. The problem with people like Macklemore is that they are so pop, hip-hop does not consider them one of their own. When they stop being "new, different, fresh, hot" they will be discarded like the Akons, Ludacris and T-pains.
(For the record, i actually like all three artists i named lmao)
Macklemore has resonated with all different types of people, that means much more than Akon, Luda, and T-Pain. I feel like your sentiments towards Macklemore might cloud your judgement a bit. they'll drop a sophomore album after milking the Heist when they return from their hiatus and it'll be huge.
You also forget that Macklemore is 100% independent. He blew up the way he did due to his ability to appeal to just about anybody. There are whites, blacks, Hispanics, hip hop heads, rock heads, casual fans, and even older generations that like Macklemore, he isn't going anywhere.

I've never come across a non white Macklemore fan.
Neither in person or online.

"What voters got wrong: The singles from "The Heist" are more impressive than the overall album, so I would've left that off the list. And, as you'll hear over and over, Bareilles really has no business being here"
