Nah I thought it was retarded that you said the album is electropop...That's what 808s is. That's what...30H!3 is. Each song Kanye raps in it except for Guilt & Blood, so I don't know how this is electronic pop to you. "A few elements of hip hop" (except for all the songs being rapped bar 2 and the fact that the electronic-esque production is structured as a hip hop beat). It isn't traditional hip hop of course, this is industrial hip hop. See: Death Grips.

Oh and I think the rapping is great. His lyrics are nothing special except for some nice lines here and there though.

I was obviously exaggerating it to get Alm mad, you know how he likes to do it in the Eminem threads. I know about Death Grips but I think calling this album bigger than Hip Hop as if it was some sort of revolutionary concept that has never been done before is dumb.

Like I said, it's a good album with great ideas behind it but poorly executed. I know you like it, and believe me, I do like it too.. But I think there are of things that could have been done in a better way. The lyrics seemed lazy, seriously (even Rubin admitted that Ye wrote them in like two hours) which is kinda neglecting one of the most important aspect of Rap.
The content is played out for the most part.

Now I guess it's up to opinions and stuff. I personally don't like that EDM weird influenced sound, and found the mixing to be pretty terrible (I have the .flac version and On Sight sounds like shit still) and I honestly don't like how some of the samples are used, without any transition. You know, I feel like it makes it seem amateur-ish.

I'm not mad because some people think it's good, but I just don't understand how it's "revolutionary" like some reviewers have been saying. To me it sounds like Ye was trying to be different for the sake of it and kinda neglected the whole music. But meh. To each their own.

I liked 3/4 tracks though. (Bloods on the Leaves, Guilt Trip, Black Skinhead and New Slaves.. except that weird ass transition in the end) but I feel like it had a lot of potential.. but it didn't live up to it.

That's why I think people are saying it has "saved hip hop", it has given it a new direction.

I don't think it has given hip-hop a new direction though...

Punk has been infused in to rap before, so has dancehall, rock and every other kind of musical influence on there... this does it bigger and bolder I guess but... it's too random to be a new direction.

And there's certainly no new direction lyrically, conceptually or anything else.

The one vibe I do hope Kanye inspires is minimalism. As I'm all down for that. Stripped down music done really well always sounds better than loud, epic, ott music to me... The Beatles are a prime example of that; but the thing is... Kanye keeps talking about how minimalist this album is, but the production sounds pretty packed to me. I'd hardly call it minimalist.

I mean, it is in spots... it's kind of clear-cut and sharp, like "New Slaves"... but then in other spots it's kind of just as manic and packed as usual.

But I'm definitely for more stripped down and direct production, as this modern-era of overproduction is annoying my ears. So few albums seem to have their own cohesive sound anymore, they all just sound like clusterfucks of noise and cheap digital drums.

You don't think this is a unique sounding album? To me the music says MORE than the lyrics, which for hip hop IS a new direction. Hip hop has always been concerned with lyricism. Production has always been important but production is usually song for song, or to create a cohesive sound in which to lay vocals over. This album is like a chemical brothers album, but with a few verses thrown in. I think the whole album is a great experience. I haven't analyzed every verse but the overall sound is definitely something new for the genre. I haven't heard another hip hop album like it, so I do think it provides a new direction. I guarantee more albums attempting this kind of sound will emerge, I think CuDi's last release was an attempt at this kind of sound but he didn't quite pull it off.

There's a video that pops up when you go to his site referencing a scene from American Psycho. :y:

I guess I disagree. The lyrics could have been better, sure, but I think the whole album sounds amazing.

That's "Black Skinheads" fam.

That movie looks awesome too. Watched the trailer yesterday.

Leo has been one of the most consistent and badass actors of the past decade... the streak of amazing films he's had is hard to match. The fact he doesn't have an Oscar is absurd... I'm not even sure if he's had a nomination!... weird complete snub given how good he is.

He was classic in Django yo.

That movie is awesome, and the scene is classic.

And it was a great idea to do a take-off of the scene for this, works perfect...

But, yeah, WOW, that is some of the worst acting I've ever seen...

It seems so bad that maybe it's intentionally like that. It's the kind of thing Kanye would do - make it intentionally hacky OTT acting just to fuck with you... but then some bits are too much of an attempted close-to-home take-off. So if it that really is his best acting... wow, he should never act.

Also lmao @ compared to Walt Disney and Steve Jobs, yeah... by himself.

Yeah American Psycho is a classic, it's a shame they didn't even come close to executing that scene well. That video made me cringe.

So it's actually all good. :sweating:

I agree, I think, along with being an excellent actor, he's very good at picking scripts. All his movies, bar his earliest work, are top notch.

I think he's been nominated a few times, but never won. (Although, he should've been nominated more).

*edit* Yeah, he was nominated for Aviator and Blood Diamond and lost to Jamie Foxx and Forest Whitaker respectively. *inb4EmBase'sracerant*

He should've been nominated for Django, and either Shutter Island or Inception in 2010. Although, I still think Christoph Waltz and Colin Firth should have won respectively.

You could argue his performance in The Aviator could have pipped Jamie Foxx, but choosing one over the other is pretty arbitrary.
