Ranking Kanye's albums, Yeezus is next to worst to 808s, but tbh that doesn't mean they're bad. They just don't match up to his first 3 albums and MBDTF.

Feel the same way about it all, to be honest.

Bound 2 is such a dope track along with Blood on the Leaves.

I don't know why nobody mentioned "Hold My Liquor" here. Great track.

Word. Bound 2 is dope but the way the samples cut for that "huhuh Honey" ruins it for me. :(

I agree. I would've preferred the track more if it only had that 1-2 times. Like, one at the start and end of the song. Maybe even one in the middle or something.

Listening to the album now, for the first time.

Thoughts?

I think he's intentionally trying to expand beyond rap music, while still keeping the attitude and delivery style. He seems as though he was bored with the polished way hip hop has evolved to, and created something abrasive and shocking to the listener. The album seems sort of...paranoid...as if he feels life closing in on him. Not that these feelings are necessarily expressed in such a way, just that the ambiance of the album makes me feel like that's how he felt.

I'm not a big Kanye West fan, but I think I understand what he's doing here. Personally, the only track that really stuck out to me in a negative way was "On Sight". The rest of it more or less sat well with me. The evolutionary nature of some of the instrumentals is interesting, and the way his personality is constantly playing a tug-of-war with his larger ideas and concepts is...artistic ambivalence? Not really the proper description, but basically his ideas are betrayed by his emotions, in some ways.

I think the reactions to this album have just as much to do with other people's reactions as the album itself. There are some people that this album just isn't for. There are others that view it as it was probably meant to be viewed, and they appreciate it. Then, there are people (on this forum, no doubt) that are too stupid to actually understand what's going on here, but just really love saying #yeezus. Then, there are the people that really hate those people, and now hate an album that they would otherwise just not care for all that much.

Personally, this isn't going to be an album that I listen to a lot, but that's just because I don't really like Kanye West's personality. As a result, I don't really like a lot of his music, because he injects so much of himself into his songs. I can appreciate what he's doing here though, and if it were done by someone with a little bit less of an egotistical bend, I might be a fan.

#yeezus. :y:

Decent at best imo and to most people, the holy grail to critics somehow.

But there is no excuse for his terrible performance as a rapper on this album. It's down right fucking garbage. We all know Kanye is no Eminem or Nas, but this by far is his worst rapping ever.

Comments like this are so stupid. Go listen to slaughterhouse or tech n9ne, lol.

You're a fucking idiot.

"I just talked to Jesus
He said, "What up Yeezus?"
I said, "Shit I'm chilling
Trying to stack these millions"

Real genius right there.

"Have confidence, speak with conviction
Don't put 'em asleep when you rock it
This is harmony, the Nina's taking you through it
Make it buttery, utterly beautiful, make it fluid
Sickology 101 is in session, I thought you knew it
