Blueprint 2 is far from Jay's 4th best. I take it as you haven't heard "In My Lifetime, Vol.1", "Hard Knock Life, Vol. 2", & "American Gangster".

Those three are amazing albums.

Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint & The Black Album are a formidable match imo.

The only one that really comes close is Reasonable Doubt. Black Album was very good and Blueprint was a classic musically but it lacked the rawness and lyrical display that Jay had on RD.

I'm not saying that those 3 from Jay-Z are better. But, I'm saying it's close.

If I had to choose, I'd choose Em's 3 but you can't say that Jay's catalogue isn't on-par with Em's.

I know that's what you're saying, and that's why I said the latter two didn't really come close lol.

MMLP/TES>SSLP=Reasonable Doubt>Blueprint>The Black Album

Hiphopdane wrote: Tend to agree with that. Sometimes rappers make their lyrics a little too hard to understand but Jay-Z knows how to balance it. He has the better delivery, metaphors and flows (latter is based on his prime stuff) while Eminem has the rhymes and story telling. Lyrically I prefer Eminem because his albums can get me trough all kind of different emotions but if I grew up anywhere close to the world Jay-Z raps about, I would probably choose him.

I guess that part's all subjective, being relatable certainly helps in terms of listening valuse. Even though I rarely listen to artists that relate to me The Wu, Mobb Deep, Nas, etc.

I don't feel like going into any big debate about that track but even though I think Em did better on it, I agree that one track never can be a true representation of what an emcee is capable of. I mean, people should judge them on their catalouges, not just one verse or two.

Yeah no doubt, this was more towards Trigger, so I apologize if I came off as confrontational.

Devil'sAdvocate wrote:Em's Catalogue is mile stones better than jay's IMO.

Eh?

Jay-Z is very talented but he is really been heading downwards for a long time.

I feel he's just being lazy as fuck, but there's no doubt he fell off.

Em had one Encore jay has like 4.

If you really want to be anal about this you can count Infinite as a mediocore album.
Em is the better lyricist,

Define "better' lyricist. They both excel at different points, and comparing them lyrical is hard seeing as they have different styles. If you want similar styles compare Pun to Eminem, or Jay z to Lupe Fiasco.
story telling

Jay's an excellent storyteller, Regrets, D'evils. The diciton he uses to convey his images are amazing.

and incredible rhyming.

He's definitely better than Jay z in this regard.

he is far more skilled with his flows, yes jay had some amazing metaphors but so did Em,EM IS WAY MORE VERSATILE AND CREATIVE.

Wtf? Jay's whole style relies on creative extended metaphors that tends to go over people heads without coming off as pretentious, whereas Eminem has weak metaphors and punchlines. We can compare them if you want.

While Em has 2 albums that define an MC and are straight classics in SSLP & MMLP.

RD and Blueprint are straight classics to so...

2 amazing in TES Relapse.

Count The Black Album, and In My Lifetime, Vol.1 than.

a very solid album in recovery.

Points to American Gangster

and a piece of trash called Encore.

Points to BP3

this is not taking anythin away from jay from,im a big big fan,i got like 5 albums of his memorized lol.

Considering the amount of material Jay has out, I'd say he's been more consistant. Eminem had an amazing three album run, but Jay's classics have been more spread out throughout his career, similar to Ghostface.

Devil'sAdvocate wrote:.

but if u take jay's best 4 albums (Reasonable Doubt,BP1,BP2,Black Album)

and compare them against Em's 4 best albums (SSLP,MMLP,TES,Relapse)
i think we have a clear winner, dont we?

Yeah Jay z ;)

and i dont like bringing out that Em killed jay on renegade shit.

but Jay actualy had a chance to easily do better than Em,cuz he heard the verses before he pinned his obviously for the known fact that renegade is originally a BME track.

Again I said earlier it's an Eminem beat, which compliments classic Slim far more than Jay z. The beat was made for Eminem's flow, whearas Jay z had to use multies a style he rarely relies on.

i presonally dont think Em fell off,the people who say he did,say so because he went down from a REALLY REALLLY high place.

Well he fell off

If you guys really want to compare discography than Ghostface>>>>>>>

Ironaman, Supreme Clientele, Fishscales>>>>>>>

Why did this turn into a Jay-Z vs Em thread? lol

@dead prez, OutKast has the best discography in hip-hop IMO.
