It might come as a bit of a shock to some of you, but "only basement dwellers won't get this album" or "only geniuses understand this album" aren't actually valid arguments.
Seriously, it isn't as if it is a hard sell, MBTDF is a brilliant album but when it comes to defending it's place among the very best EVER made, y'all resort to childish jabs and "you won't understand"s.
Incase y'all didn't know, these are the factors that matter in any OF ALL TIME argument;
1. Sales
Let's use Writers as an analogy, on the list of the greatest books of all time, you'll find Chinua Achebe's Thing's Fall Apart. Brilliant book, but was it the best/most critically acclaimed African novel of even that time period? No. But it's one of the best selling books of all time.
Is Shakespeare the best writer of all time? No. But he's widely considered among the greatest writers who ever lived because of the popularity of his works.
Is Harry Potter the best contemporary British novel? Fuck no. But it's among the greatest.
Do y'all see the pattern here?
2. Impact on the culture.
I'm talking lasting impact, not memes that die out after a couple of years.
Twilight was wildly popular some time ago, nobody really gives a fuck about it now, but Harry Potter is still considered a modern literary classic.
...
MBDTF, while brilliant, doesn't have much of the above.
Take note that when we're talking about the GOAT albums, we're projecting far into the future, some of the albums y'all are shoving down the list in your rush to place MBDTF above them, have stood the test of time. Twisted Fantasy hasn't.
