The Growth Of Lowkey Is Outstanding

Postby MikeNUFC » Dec 26th, '10, 15:45

Unreal how much this guy has improved, not just lyrically, but artistically as well.

The Key To The Game stuff was good but obviously he hadn't seriously found his voice yet and his rhyming was still rough around the edges.

Upped it big time on Dear Listener conceptually, lyrically and content wise - amazing album - but there was still something missing. I still dont think he'd fully found his voice.

But listening through his 2010 stuff now, the guy is there. Terrorist and Obama Nation are two of the best songs of the year and two of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. He's at an unbelievable level right now. There's very few rappers - UK or America - that can touch him at this point.

Even his 2009 stuff was a massive step up from Dear Listener, IMO, he souns so hungry and passionate on everything post DL.

I know very little about future projects but I hinestly could see his next album being something majorly special. Like possibly one of the best rap albums ever, no exaggeration.

The guy is exactly what rap music needs, and UK rap in particular. But not only that, I've watched his speeches and things, and he doesnt just talk the talk. He's out there, getting his message across in more than just the music. Check this out from Wiki:

In July 2008 the Theatre Royal, Bath put on a production of 'Max and Beth', a contemporary adaptation of Macbeth by William Shakespeare written entirely in rhyme.[23] Lowkey also helped publicise the NSPCC's Don't Hide It campaign, also contributing a free song to it, in which his lyrics are delivered from the perspective of a female victim of sexual abuse.[7] He also formed a non-profit organisation, People's Army with fellow rapper Logic, who he has also made an unreleased album with (New World Order[1]), and met up with then-Liberal Democrats leader Menzies Campbell as a representative of his local community.[10] In February 2009, he travelled to Palestine and Palestinian refugee camps around the West Bank area to perform fundraising shows to help rebuild the Gaza Strip but was detained by the Israel Police for nine hours at Ben Gurion International Airport and interrogated.[24] Later in 2009, he travelled with M-1 of Dead Prez to carry out a humanitarian aid mission and bring medical aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza. M-1 mentioned in an interview with PyroRadio.com that a collaboration between the two had been made "I met up with a guy called Lowkey over there as well who’s from London as well, I had a chance to meet with him, he’s a good brother, we built a lot, it was real cool, we gotta get the song out." Lowkey also mentions the song that the two artists wrote together, in an interview on Conspiracy Worldwide Radio.[25] Evidence of the song is still yet to surface.

He's quite obviously a very intellegent person at a time when there is a lot of people holding ignorant views, especially in the UK due to varying reasons, and and he is so passionate about what he does - cannot wait for his next album.

His next album is called Soundtrack To The Struggle. It's coming soon, initially he said end of '10, but I suppose it's gonna be begin '11. A song with Klashnekoff --called Blood, Sweat, & Tears-- is gonna be on youtube soon, probably somewhere this week.

Lowkey is a pure Hip Hop artist, he defines integrity. He's easily one of the best emcees out now, not just in the UK, but worldwide. He's in my top ten next to the likes of Eminem, Nas, Big Pun, etc. Even though he doesn't have the same caliber of material out, yet, he's definitely a remarkable emcee. And besides being just an emcee, he's an activist, playwright, and a poet, as well. Just like you said, he embodies what he talks about. He's really trying to make a change. The man get's nothing but respect from me.

I really like him but he's getting very repetitious at this point. He's probably one of the most level headed rappers on the subject of politics but all of his content is just sounding very monotone at this point. I define a rapper by their diversity and Lowkey has actually went downhill in that aspect. You may praise him because he's making songs which I admit are very good but he's become a cookie cutter creator. His next album should be classic but I can only hope he mixes it up a bit. I don't want to listen to 16 songs in a row about Palestine, the middle east, and politics. I just don't.

Yeah, I met him during a charity dinner last month, he was a special guest. He did couple songs and handed out items for the auction. Pretty generous person, speaks the truth and lyrically is good. Though his music doesn't really appeal to me, it's good don't get me wrong, just not what I want to hear.

Wow. Klashnekoff's verse was the sickest thing I've ever heard him spit, granted I only listened to one of his mixtapes. I really like this song. His production quality has been outstanding.

If you haven't heard much Klash, I suggest you check out The Sagas of... and Back to the Sagas, alongside some of the work he did when Terra Firma was still active.

Agree wholeheartedly. Was relistening to Key To The Game series the other day, and comparing it to Dear Listener and beyond is outstanding. He's grown, changed, and improved so much since then. He'll likely only improve from here (hopefully). Can't wait to see what he brings with Soundtrack To The Struggle.
One reason why I also really like him is, as Zu said, he (like IT..even though I know you don't like him very much Mike) is about more than the music, he is very active and essentially practices what he preaches.

This, and it's sad that he's relatively underrated while Chipmunk and N Dubz are everywhere cause there's nobody else out in the UK who can rap as well as him or go for the same subjects as him

I have been listening to Lowkey since he was 16. The guy is ill but I am not sure if he is the best in the UK. We have so many talented guys over here you could argue that others are better.

I would say he is one of the best no doubt. Rhyme Asylum, Jehst, Kyza, Chester P, Scorzayzee, Life, Kashmere, Ransom Badbonez all on their day can be put up the top as number 1.

I'd say maybe Rhyme Asylum could challenge him but honestly he is probably my personal favourite out of everyone in the UK
