Despite the Eminem beef, Everlast is amazing

Postby FreeSpeech » Feb 26th, '11, 03:38

I feel like a bunch of people just discount him as the dude from House Of Pain that Em dissed.
IMO, his post-HOP stuff is incredible, on par with anything Eminem has done meaningful-wise. Plus I love his singing voice. It's a shame they beefed, coulda made some incredible songs together...

2 sad, beautiful songs:

Shouldn't this be in the Hip Hop section. Anyways that first song you posted is pretty good, but the only music I heard from him before this was his disses towards Eminem and while some of his ideas on things to diss Eminem about were good "you're a candy rapper thats why they call you Eminem" "you call me a faggot but atleast I aint the one dressing in drag" his lyricism and delivery were fucking horrid.

Yeah he's a mediocre rapper, but once he switched to rock and singing, he killed it.

In an actual fight though, Everlast woulda wiped the floor with Em. Dude's a big mofo...

I thought Everlast was a band when I first found out about him. I used to play "What It's Like" all the time as a kid.

Later when I got into Eminem and found out he dissed him I was so fucking confused as to why he would diss a country-blues band.

He didn't redo Survival of the Fittest...
You honestly think he failed? It's not like he stole it, Mobb endorsed him doing it. It wasn't as good as the original, but it wasn't bad. Did you even listen to the first song I posted???

No I didn't , and yeah I am fully aware that Mobb Deep knew about it, but it's still a disgrace to the originals. But whatever, I guess check his shit out.

Listen to the album Love, War, and the Ghost of Whitey Ford, it's great.

I haven't heard any of his solo material. But I just listened to those songs and I'd hardly say they're on a par with Em's best stuff for meaning lmao.

Just because something is somber or has an emotional underbelly to do with war or some little concept relating to life, family or society doesn't make it meaningful. It's not hard to write along that note or think of a basic idea. It's the way it's done.

Where as... pushing free speech, toying with reaction and playing public enemy like he did on The Marshall Mathers LP, the way he did that was nothing short of masterful. And that stuff isn't even close to as meaningful, in artistic terms.
