The great adventures of Slick Rick

I've had this in my collection for a long but only recently given it a proper second listen which I now realize I should have done a lot earlier. Honestly, this is one of the most charismatic albums there has ever been released. Every single song is "story telling" and tells a story about something he has witnessed (quite a few are probably fiction) in such a humouristic way.
I think Jay-Z said in his book that Slick Rick was a master of expressing feelings that he couldn't name so he kindda made funny stories and let the story itself reflect how he felt at the time (the ending of Children's Story is a prime example of that).

When it comes to studying the art of telling stories through rap, this album is the blueprint. You can clearly hear how someone like Eminem was influenced by this album if you listen to a song like Brain Damage.

The production is quite boring although I gotta say that I love the old school sound on some of the tracks (mostly Teenage Love).

Now hands down to this album managing to present itself as a landmark in rap history ,one of my fav of all time and has a good influence on me too as far as my writing is concerned .

Listening to Slick Rick actually taught me how to present stories up to the level you can stretch the concept that you can have the listeners engaged .

What really amazed me is the humor in this album which is just mind blowing .

Yeah, I think that's what a lot of writers strive for. I can't really remember what song but there's one track on the album where the story just keeps getting crazier and crazier untill you are not even sure if he is being honest or just fucking with you.

I hate this album - only in that, I'll be walking down the street or on the bus and I'll literally laugh out loud at it and it'll make me look like a fucking idiot.

It's amazing, one of the few albums I geniunely find hilarious. Treat Her Like A Prositute and Indian Girl are so fucking funny it's unreal. The end of Indian Girl is so genius

You can see how he influenced basically every storytelling rapper after it came out - Eminem, especially, in terms of playing different characters/voices and adding that random hilarity.

Great album, damn '88 was a crazy year for hip hop!

I wish they would reissue this album with updated beats, because the production on here is definitely dated, but I suppose Rick's lyrics where always meant to be the highlight of this project, and they're still incredible today
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Better late than never :D When talking about personality, you could use this album as an example. His personality adds about 50 % to the overall feeling of it.
