Best Hip Hop oriented country outside the U.S.?

Postby dead prez » Mar 20th, '11, 22:34

So which do you think rivals the U.S. (as if) in terms of quality Hip Hop?

This board seems to favor the UK, though Canada has pretty dope mcees out at the moment. K-os being one of my personal favorite, but Shad's pretty dope as well.

Definitely UK. I would even go so far and say the UK has more quality emcees out right now than the US. As in, the newer generation of emcees.

I would try and counter with "new school" rappers from the U.S., but what years would you consider a rapper to be "new school"?

^Difficult to say, 'cause even in my list there are emcees who have been in the game for quite a while now. I now realize that I classed ''new school'' as in ''new to me'', I guess. I won't point at the XXL freshmen shit, either, 'cause that's just....

But if we look at 2005 and up, just out curiousity, who would you class under good new school emcees?

I personally think "new school" Hip Hop started post 96
Sadistik
Krit
Freddie Gibbs
Blu
Lupe Fiasco
One Be Lo (well he's been in the game since 2000)
Dessa and POS (from Doomtree)
Insight (since 02)
Currensy
Zumbi from Zion I (Mind over matter came out in 2000)
J live (post 01 his first two albums are great)
Busdriver

Oh, yeah, I agree on 96, old school ended in 96. But I was refering to the newer rappers, I guess. Sadistik, Lupe Fiasco, and Blu are definitelly one of the better ''newer'' emcees.

Taking out the mixtape game years, Lupe would be one of the newer rappers, yeah. Food & Liquor dropped in '06.

Sadistik is definitely one of the newer rappers.

Blu, same story, definitely one of the newer rappers.

One Be Lo has been in the game since 99, though. His first album with Binary Star dropped in 99.

Outside the U.S of course, the UK always has the advantage because it has the highest population out of the other major English speaking countries (where it's the first language) Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc

And if you add up and combine the populations of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom....it still only comes to about 121 million (which is not even 1/2 of the total US population), which is 307 million

The US has definitely the best line up of emcees. Without a doubt. Nas, Eminem, Big Pun (RIP), Biggie (RIP), Big L (RIP), Tupac (RIP), Guru (RIP), Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Joe Budden, etc....

But if you look at the XXL freshman list, honestly, it's depressing. Like there isn't any real talent in the US.... But I guess they went with what was marketable. I blame it on the fans, too.

^ Oh yeah for sure.

I'm from the UK (for anyone who doesn't know) and even I can admit that the legacy, quality, talent, skill, and impact of hip-hop music / rappers will probably never be surpassed, and the U.S wins hands down in every department, all day every day. Anyone who says otherwise is deluded. The rappers you just mentioned >>>>>>>>> *

It could be argued you could add many more legends and sick emcees to that list too.

NO ONE can fuck with that, and probably never will.

It's just in the last few years I have preferred to listen to UK Rappers. But again that is just personal preference on my behalf, and I still have loads and loads of favourite rappers from the US.

The vast majority of my "all-time top 50" would be American rappers tbh, and of course I am posting this on a forum for an American rapper lol.
