At which age did you get into Hip Hop?

Postby mcZu » Mar 23rd, '11, 22:42

I got into Hip Hop by the age of 13, I used to be a major Tupac and Nas fan. Tupac not so more now, but at the age of 13 Tupac used to be all I listened to. Tupac was actually the one who inspired me to write poetry --yes, poetry, Tupac wrote poetry, too-- at the age of 14. Been writing since. Nas' 'I can' was the song that actually made me appreciate Hip Hop, heard it when I was 13.

At what age did you get into Hip Hop?

11 or 12 was when I really got into it, I don't really remember ever NOT hearing it.

I started listening to other artists than Eminem and the Shady family only 2 years ago, after Relapse came out. So that's 16 years old.

What can I say... better late than never.

Beastie Boys/Run DMC in kindergarten.

I remember hearing The Message by Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five; That had a huge impact on me.

I was in junior high, I think I was.. dunno, about 12 or 13 maybe. But yeah, I got into polish hip hop in the first place, it was around the time it got out of the underground and started to become more mainstream. I remember no one in my class was into hip hop, people only knew few tracks, so I was pretty alienated with my newly discovered passion. I didn't have a discman, so I'd borrow CD's from my mate's brother and ask my other friend to re-record them to tapes.. :sweating: I didn't really follow one artist, just listen to whatever I thought sounded decent.

After a while, I got into Eminem, cause it was around the time TES was released. Again, I didn't have discman, so when we went for a trip to Germany, I borrowed it from my friend and I've spent almost the entire trip listening to TES. Like 6 or 8 hours, I had to buy her batteries.. :sweating: I've known Eminem before, from the SSLP and MMLP albums, the singles were all over MTV and radio, so obviously I recognized them, but I wasn't into music that much when I was younger.

Anyways, after Eminem it was D12, the entire Shady/Aftermath thing and for a very long time American hip hop was the only thing I was listening to. I searched for classics, checked out new artists and was basically crazy about it. Ahh.. good old times. :smoking:

Interesting how we all got into hip hop at the same age.. 12-13. Anyways, it's been around 10 years now.

^Yeah, haha. I remember listening to Nas' It Was Written on a casette tape. Someone had recorded it from a CD for me, haha. I used to listen to that all day long on my Walkman.

I think in my mid-13's. It began with my Eminem super-stanism then it moved forward with 2Pac, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, D12, Biggie & Kanye :flutter:

Walkman.. wow, I was so excited to buy my first one, I was like.. 9 or 10. Years later I got a discman for my bday along with 8 Mile OST and holy shit, I cried. Then I bought Dre's '2001', it was pretty cheap and I've listened to it for months until the CD surface got all scratched and started to fuck up.

^Yeah, that's what I categorize as experiencing Hip Hop, nowadays you can DL it from the internet and listen to it on your Iphone or w.e. Back in the days it was special, buying a record, or copying it from a friend, and listening to it on your walkman/discman in your room or on the go. Damn, how I miss those days.

Have always been an Eminem fan but remember NOT liking Jay Z and Az when some heads introduced me to it. Pretty hard transition from Rock.

Forever verse by Eminem and Drake plus a bit of Facebook where the catalyst though. Was 17 then

Goddamn dude, you just gave me a huge nostalgia attack. Except it wasn't hip-hop what I was listening to back then.
