Just look up Failure by Lupe. It's the best example of what he does.

Maybe I'm dumb (I'm not lol) but it seems like he's trying to hard on that song to be complex because all I hear is him rambling on about nothing lol. I don't see any clear cut puns/punches.

He is trying hard to be complex, but on the surface it's main "theme" is about the streets but in every sentence there is an extended metaphor that goes off of the last line.

He isn't a "punchline" rapper, he's a wordplay rapper. You'd think there isn't a difference but Lupe proves that there is.
