This forum made me think...

Postby Fiftys_Advocate » May 18th, '11, 17:14

Well, this is my first „bigger thread“, be gentle please..

Before reading this, you should know my favorite rap artists that I listen to every day (two days): 50 Cent (amazing, this kid has such a great flow, voice, beats…), Eminem (what a surprise), Lloyd Banks (the king of punchlines actually), Tech N9ne, Kanye West (great musician). Then, the “secondary” rappers, which are also really good and I listen to them, but they are not as great as those rappers above: B.o.B, Kid Cudi, Chamillionaire, Nas (Illmatic :y: ), Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf. I also listen to other artists, but those are my favorites..

I visit TR almost every day. Different people, different opinions, different attitudes. This forum I do not use for Eminem news only, I am also interested in people’s views on music, their expectations (what make song a good song). I noticed some rappers that are quite liked here and I knew they existed, but I had not given a chance to listen them. Last days I (re)searched a little, played some songs from different artists like: Rhyme Asylum, Waka Flocka Flame, Hopsin, Tyler the Creator & Lil B (complex magazine predicts him a great year). Remember, I heard only 3-5 tracks from each artist.

Here are my feelings:
Lil B – I listened to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m5CIcbytfM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM8oyrJn9Qc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0CcuxSX ... ure=relmfu

My perception: Just tell me, how can anybody listen to this guy? He is horrible.. I hope I don´t have to explain..

Tyler

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSbZidsgMfw (Yonkers)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3koJNlg ... re=related (Seven)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVcpFOR ... re=related (Blow)

Nothing special to me. Dude has some good and clever lines, but his flow is just boring and it has no creativity.

Waka

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skhxizRYxps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkkC9cK8Hz0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXMtXE0SWLY

Actually, Lil B pt. 2. It sounds like these guys have the same exhibition, like if they were brothers. The third track – this is an example how to ruin the beat – three of the worst actually.

Hopsin – I listened to Raw. It all started with Sag My Pants (great track!), then I downloaded Raw. After listening Sag My Pants first I was disappointed, but after two or three listens I realized it´s actually pretty good – yes, it is not a masterpiece, but guy has good beats, dope flow and tracks like I Am Raw, Nocturnal Rainbows, I’m Not Crazy are pretty good.

Rhyme Asylum

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBxYn1ig ... re=related (Attitude Problem)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBxYn1ig ... re=related (Iller Instinct)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzaGj39NEis (For the Hate)

Wow, thank you TR! Great flow, AWESOME lyrics, delivery. While listening to “For the Hate) I almost cummed.

In conclusion, I am glad that this research had purpose – I updated my list of the shittiest rappers. I am appalled that some dude call Lil B or Waka the future of rap. However, I found Hopsin and Rhyme Asylum pretty good and I will give them a chance.

Thank you for reading!

Take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. People like to hype things that are truly shit. Wacka, Lil B, Goblin.... you name it.

Best thing to do would be listen a couple songs from the artists you see mentioned and make your own opinion about them.

I like how you are forming your own opinion bro. but because there are so many names thrown around here (lil b stans for example) its important to see when someone is kidding or actually being for real. Best thread to try out in the last few days is the 150 albums hip-hop heads need to check out. :8)

you definitely need to hear another side of Lil B like PK said
me personally, i love his cooking music (swag rap) and Wonton Soup is a great example of that, also I'm Heem and most of his new mixtape Bitch Mod Vol 1...some people like ShadyNarkoticz, BILI, others are more into his deep stream of conscious rap like Cold War, Motivation, I Still Can't Sleep, etc

I´m open-minded. I am not hating or shit, I just want to listen to a high-quality music. When magazine marks somebody a future of rap, I have expectations. I expect something new, innovative, something that would make me to listen it again. Honestly, I listened to three tracks of Lil B (first in the search-list and then suggestions on the right side) 2 times, but after that I had to turn it off, because it sounded horrible to me.. Waka Flocka ditto.

@DƎRDYPK, @Unscarred, @christalgurl: Thank you so much, I will check out these people (& songs) too. Then I will write my opinion, if you are interested.

@Omega, @momentsgolden: Yeah, thank you guys. Omega, you seem to be a cool dude (Fifty avatar :D ), what do you listen to usually?
