Atmosphere (Slut) vs Sadistik

Postby VenomBlackViper » Jun 15th, '11, 05:33

Inspired by a recent (currently ongoing) thread.
Since they rap mostly about the same shit (although Atmosphere has a lot more variety) which do you think is better & why?

Thread title was done on purpose -shifty-

Of course I'm going to be biased here, as Slug is my favorite rapper.. But there's a reason for him being in that position.

There really isn't any competition between these two. Slug wins hands down.

(forgive me if this post seems scattered and out of place. It's 1 AM and I'm dead-tired)

Sadistik, in his current state, is making the type of music that Slug made from 97-(around) 2005. Except he's not doing it as well as Slug had. Granted, Sadistik has only ever released two bodies of work..

As an artist, Slug has consistantly evolved throughout the entirety of his career. His first album (overcast) sounds nothing like the next (God Loves Ugly) which sounds nothing like the next (Seven's Travels) and so on and so forth. The guy is a fucking Chameleon.

Sadistik has failed the versatility test. Both of his albums (well, album and EP) sound the same. Not only that, but he doesn't sound half as natural as Slug does. I don't know about you, but when Slug says something, I tend to believe it just because of the natural emotion in his voice. Sadistik doesn't have that. I mean, he has emotion.. Don't get me wrong.. But it's not natural sounding. It's not fluid.

And, as pointed out by Embase (a point that I agree with), the way Sadistik often-times will word his rhymes is very unnatural and tends to make a lot of what he says sound forced. This isn't always the case, but the majority of the time it is. Slug has a very natural approach to this (much like Spoonfull) where you can hardly tell that he's rhyming, in most cases.

Slug's versatility, as far as content and rhyming is concerned, is bar-none. Sadistik is lacking in the content department.

This takes nothing away from Sadistik as an artist. I believe he still has a lot of growth ahead of him. Hopefully we'll see some more versatility in content and emotion.. But until then, he's nowhere near Slug's realm of eclectic godliness.

Block i'm surprised you didn't mention how much more variety Slug has, he makes all kinds of different songs that have different sound with different concepts & storytelling tracks with twists whereas Sadistik mostly raps about the same subject.

Are you mocking what I said? lol. I'm pretty sure I reiterated that exact thought like 5 times. :confusion:

Don't fuck with my head right now.

You said he evolves from album to album, but even on the albums themselves there's a lot of variety & different sounding songs.

It was either that or a shifty smiley.

Sadistik is better technically but Slug is better at creating vivid stories with his music and he's more creative. However...you have to remember how long Slug has been in the game compared to Sadistik. Sadistik on the Balancing Act is miles ahead of Slug on Overcast!

Depends on how you look at it..

What Slug says in "God's Bathroom Floor" >> Anything Sadistik has ever said in a song. However from a technical aspect, Sadistik is much further along than Slug was at that time. But you also have to remember that 'Overcast!' came out in 1997.

Yeah, rapping was different back then. It just all depends on how Sadistik evolves as a rapper.
