Summary: after hearing Workout (bonus from Cole World), Nas talked to Cole and he said he expected more from the dude. Apparently this crushed Cole and there will be a "deep" song about this in Born Sinner.

I can see where Nas is coming from. Cole World was pretty much devoid of any creativity so hearing something like workout must have been disappointing since he expected more out of him. Born Sinner does look like a more artistic album though, so he might be able to redeem himself.

That's awesome. Gotta love rappers calling out other rappers for a lack of creativity. Creates some accountability from within the game.

Maybe Nas saying that is what inspired him to dig deeper... as he seems to have put some real effort in and dug artistically deep from what I've seen of the aesthetics, title and little bits I've heard.

I believe GKMC had a really big influence too.

Regardless of how good GKMC actually is, it's impact on rappers realizing they don't need to compromise is of great importance.

I've heard both Power Trip and Miss America.

Also, just form interviews, snippets. J. Cole seems to rightly realise that compromising - a la Cole World - should not, as doesn't have to be, be the way to go.

Yes, and that doesn't 't have absolutely anything to do with "Kendrick ".

Cole World sold extremely well. That's why Cole has the liberty to do whatever he wants now.

OMG :facepalm

What are you having trouble understanding. GKMC proved to all rappers that you don't need to compromise to sell well in the mainstream anymore. That's why it's a profoundly important album, regardless of how much you like it.

I doubt Born Sinner will have any "blatantly aimed for radio" type songs like Who Dat/In The Morning.

Cole's isn't "not compromising" because he sold good number last time, lol.
