Just listening to this shit again (Canibus)...

SH should take note; if you wanna just write smart-ass lines and puns: THIS is how it's done.

When you play this shit, the lines feel potent and it immediately makes me wanna rap the fuck along; you would think wit would improve within rap but 90s wit for the most part really does feel >>>

One of my favourite 'Bis tracks; this, his verse on Beast from East and Desperados were insane

I'm strong, my word is Bond like James
Niggaz be tryin to test, but they 'week' like seven days

- dude made it seem so fuckin' effortless back then
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
[/i

Ha, maybe, I like when punchlines/similes are being spat at the rate that 'Bis a prime Weezy used to churn them out at though

Nah... Bis' are cool, and make me wanna rap...

"They act so chicken, they should come with a large drink and a biscuit"

Sounds smooth and witty. Wayne's sound clumsy and embarrassing, and makes me hate rap.

Wayne just be like "They say I'm geeky. GATES. But I'm also psycho. BATES" with like no real integration in to the verse, no wit - just a statement of a pun and that cringing structure.

Dear god please tell me that's from a Lil Wayne song. The line sounds just like something he would say.

Weak punches and weak rhymes. Wayne can and has done much better than that.

Not just that but his delivery was much better than his raspy screechy voice he later gets. So even if some of the lines might be wack they're much more digestable since his delivery is actually decent in this era. And yeah he was a monster back than, you could feel the hunger in his tracks.

You know I have a theory (as well as a few other people) that many times rappers like Canibus, Chino XL, and Vakill (pretty much a vast array of punchline rappers) come up with cheesy lines not with the intent to be clever, but to for ironic laughing purposes. I mean who could tell me that Bis came up with that line with a straight face thinking, "damn this'll be dope!".

I mean here's some other lines

"I spit fire at faggots and fart in the flames"-Vakill

"When you rhyme I'm so bored (board) you can surf on me"-Chino XL

"You ain't just wack, you're what wack wants to be when it grows up." Chino Xl

"You wouldn't be star if you were thrown by chinese ninjas" Chino Xl

There's a million other lines by him that I don't feel like digging up, but yeah listening to them with the intent of them like a cheesy B Movie rather than comparing them to RA lines makes them a lot better and hilarious, hopefully that's what they were intending.
