I can't seem to be convinced by Dr. Dre

I know there are lots of people who enjoy Dr. Dre as a rapper (alongside with being a producer), even if they know that he doesn't write his own stuff. But I can't seem to like him like they do and believe that he is a fairly good rapper.
I think he sounds fake, and that may have something do with his voice. It doesn't convince me at all. For example, I love the song "Nuthin' But a G Thang", something most Hip-Hop fans have heard and enjoyed, and I listen to it a lot, but I can barely enjoy Dre's verses. He sounds too fake.

I don't know how many here feels the same.

Nah I actually like his voice but I can't respect him as a rapper.

I may enjoy his projects, but he'll never be anywhere in my top rappers list because I can't respect someone who can't write his own shit. I mean Royce wrote The Message, which was supposed to be about his brother.. He couldn't even write verses for his brother.

His production with Scott Storch though.. I MISS THAT SOUND

i guess it plays into that nostaglic feel, like how everyone loves 80s and 90s rap. Its a denial system at best, clouded by a time everyone enjoyed.

Well I don't consider him a rapper.

To me it's like considering an actor a director...

Dre doesn't write his own raps, therefore they're not his thoughts. He's not a director, he's an actor.

So I don't even judge 'his' raps, because they're not his thoughts, rhymes or ideas.

He's just a producer to me.

Right. It used to bother me that he didn't write his verses but now I just try to appreciate them by trying to figure out who wrote them. He has some pretty damn good verses here and there. At least it isn't a secret

I don't think it's right to attribute them to him, just like I wouldn't attribute good dialogue to an actor. I'd attribute it to the writer.

in one of N.W.A's tracks he clearly raps that he does not smoke weed, yet, after leaving N.W.A his 2 solo albums were the Chronic, his entire solo gimmick was based on weed, when jist years before he said in an NWA song he does not smoke sess/weed

obviously he's never shot anybody, yet, his tracks speak on that life

he don't even write his own shit, he's faker than Rick Ross
