Some DJ's (like Dj Khaled) only get artists together on a beat they bought from a producer to make a song.

DJ's mix in front of a live audience. Meaning they match BPM's (Beats per minute) from one song into another so that each song has a smooth transition. They also add in things such as scratches,drops, special sound effects, kill the bass/change the pitch on certain parts, etc. etc. and try their best to entertain the crowd overall.
