A Problem With "Multies"

Postby Slim Fiasco » Apr 16th, '14, 17:11

Yeah, so, I appreciate how some rappers can make everything a fucking multie, it does take skill, but more often than it puts the artist in a corner and that's what all he does. Plus, I kinda hate it when it's all rhyming rhyming and there's like no headroom for chilling. Less Is More I guess.

What say you?

Well, Big L and Elzhi are kinda like that but they're 2 of my favorite rappers, so I do love them, however it's still a bit one-dimensional I'd say.

RA The Rugged man would be another like that.

However, I'm trying to name not so obvious examples here i.e. not so extreme.

Yeah, I guess.

bigray wrote:if you don't give examples its really hard to understand what you exactly mean, i have no issues with multies it makes your raps sound so much better and flows better than very simple rhymes but yes i get what you're saying sometimes too many multies takes you away from actually saying what you wanna say and it comes off as just rhyming words with not much sense put into it, how ever multies are a lot harder to write and take much more time.

Gotcha :y:

Edit: Actually, a great example would be Infinite Em vs. TES let's say

I think he's talking about how Infinite Em overused multis while TES Em used less but used them better.

Tech N9ne is a prime example of abusing multis.

I think if you're more multi-obsessed rather than what you're saying in your lyrics, there's a problem. If you're a technical lyricist, mutli-syllable rhyming should be simple for you, but the problem is that a lot of the rappers trade multi-rhyming for lack of sense or it sounds forced altogether. Rappers should be focusing on sharpening all areas of their abilities, and that includes flowing as well, cause the last thing I wanna see from a rapper is stringing 10-syllable multies but can't seem to flow well within a drumbreak.

more rhyming almost always = better for me. obviously once you're just getting into bullshit gibberish it loses value but until then i'm all for multi stacking out the ass, whilst minimizing the amount of non-rhyming syllables in between. i love it

i'm not here to listen to poetry nigga, this isn't spoken word. i'm wanna hear some crazy flows coupled with ridiculous rhyme structures. i'm here to hear flows that shouldn't even fit over a beat but the artist some how makes it work. now, that said there's definitely a place in hiphop for faggoty emo poetry, it's just not my preference. i don't want to hear anything that i'm capable of writing myself.
i'm comin in, drivin my short bus

imma change your brain bring
every wicked bit of strange to mainstream
