Re: Rate the last album you've listened to

Postby dead prez » May 19th, '14, 19:13

well wasn't he a lot higher in your top ten before? lol, would he make your top 15 still? And it seems like quality went down in your eyes, not sure if you find him boring or anything to listen to anymore though. Nas though outside of illmatic and a few great songs on other albums is kinda boring to me now, (conversely jay z is starting to look more appealing lol, never though I'd say that since I could have easily been construed as a jay z hater before). He's just such a "pure" hip hop artist where the only reason you listen to him is because of his raps rather than beats, hooks, or it just being generally catchy music. I still like illmatic but that album is like the blueprint on how to make a "pure" hip hop album that relies on no melody but pure rapping and fire beats and scratched hooks, and when done right is great no doubt. But other times his hooks are really bad and his beats are decidedly bland, and even his rapping while topnotch can get monotonous after a while. I still love him cause he's the first rapper I stanned (other than Lil wayne and eminem, but he gets more credibility with the hip hop heads) but yeah after listening to more music from other genres he's EXTREMELY hard to listen to in long periods, lol. I stanned him harder than Black Thought @ one point, but yeah. Also Life is Good is probably like a top 3-4 nas album imo (very unpopular opinion). can't believe I just ranted, lmao

yeah i guess i feel the same way. i was overrating kweli by putting him in my top 10, more like top 20, not sure about top 15. I even feel the same way about Nas, everyone knows he's a great rapper to the point where he's the stereotypical great rapper but he does get kind of boring. I hardly ever listen to him now where as Jay-Z is a lot more entertaining and I've been playing his three classics a ton lately.

In my dad's drag draggin' a faggot in a Glad bag
Won't be the last time I make a dramatic entrance like that again
You thought I was lyin' when I said I think that I'm crossin' the line again
I've lost my mind, caution oh God I think I've just thought of another fucking line
Forgive me father, for I have sinned
But hip hop has left me brainwashed with a violent streak
