What big mainstream albums have there been? Schoolboy Q, Rick Ross, YG & Future. Meh

Piñata is defintely AOTY but Freddie Gibbs isn't big enough for anyone to recognize if I throw it on.

I'm struggling with finding music to put on my party playlist for next semester rn

I mean ya

Sadistik's album and Sage Francis' albums were great. Cunninlynguists and Grieves were good. Atmosphere's was decent. Haven't listened to Common's

but none of those albums are big. Last year we had new Kanye, J. Cole, Jay-Z, A$AP Rocky, Cudi all by this time.

Granted most of those were disappointing but still

I gave Sage Francis a chance, listened to two tracks off this copper gone album, its like he has no idea what a flow is but the lyrics were okay.

I feel ya bra.. we are promised new Kendrick and Kanye, i really cant think of any other upcoming albums atm

Sage Francis actually has a really good idea of what flow is but he just uses such an abstract flow it sounds weird to people not accustomed to it. It's to the point where he's basically spoken word over a beat because it's not rly a rap flow.

And ya I'm banking on Kendrick to save this year tbh

The same thing that happens every year. I'd say less than half the albums slated for a release in a year actually end up getting released. People need to stop getting their hopes up and looking forward to albums because they always either never happen or get pushed back a ton.

Schoolboy Q's album was a disappointed but YG delivered a good album to me .. mastermind ain't that bad either

really enjoyed Roth's album and Monch's too .. so far my favourite albums of this year alongside YG's

the rest is pretty forgettable

That's what happens when you have all the big names in Hip-Hop drop in one year. People are probably gearing up for 2015, Drake apparently is.

imo it hasn't been lame. I liked (a lot) the following projects:

'Piñata' by Freddie Gibbs + Madlib
'Cilvia Demo' by Isaiah Rashad
'A Place Like This EP' by Majid Jordan
'G I R L' by Pharrell
'Lord Steppington' by Alchemist + Evidence
'Poetic Poltergeist' by Swifty McVay
'Z' by SZA
'My Krazy Life' by YG
'Animal Ambition' by 50 Cent
'These Days' by Ab-Soul
'Ghost Stories' by Coldplay
'Nobody's Smiling' by Common
'Ultraviolence' by Lana Del Rey
'Oxymoron' by ScHoolboy Q
'House Rules' by Slaughterhouse
'ATLA' by Stat Quo

Only those big names are missing, but I wouldn't say this 1st half of 2014 was lame.

The most shitty year for hip-hop music, and music in general, I think.
Look at sales, which falls incredibly this year. For example new Sia album got only 52k in it's first week.
It's already half of 2014, and not much dope albums we got.
