R+B singer AKON refuses to perform guest appearances for his chart contemporaries, insisting he will only contribute if he produces the track. The LONELY hitmaker duets with EMINEM and SNOOP DOGG on SMACK THAT and I WANNA LOVE YOU respectively. Akon admits he is too involved in music to simply lend his vocals and not contribute creatively. He explains, "I don't just guest. If I don't produce it, I won't get on the record. "The main reason for a collaboration is to bring something new and help you expand your audience."

i think that is in a way selfish and in a way not. i don't think he is helping himself in the long run by refusing to lend his voice on other artists songs if he doesn't produce the the song himself. i see it as kinda shoting urself in the foot so to speak. could leave a bad taste in other artists mouth and maybe other artists won't want to work with him then. (something that could expose him more to a wider audience if he did let atrists use his vocals). on the good side, i think it's good that he don't wanna have to rely on anyone producing his tracks. i mean it is his vocals and he should be able to produce the songe if his vocals r going to be used. shouldn't he?

i can see were hes comming from at a point, but i think it wont necessarily help him expand with other artists because not everyone wants other people to produce the track they going to collab with, hard for me to explain to try and get my point across, but in a nutshell, he aint selfish, but he aint smart.... :confusion: (i think i just confused myself)

I got your point
