Is hip-hop dead? Even if you don't feel that Nas has the album of the year, he has the most controversial LP title of the year in Hip Hip Is Dead ... The N. No debating that. Some people are agreeing with Nas' provocative statement while others say he is dead wrong. Especially MCs from the South.

Young Jeezy spazzed out on the radio a couple of weeks ago when asked about the album title. He claimed Nas to be disrespectful among other things

Nas > Luda.

So really at this point, i could really give a fuck wat luda says.

Not like Luda ever brought anything to the culture.

Big boi went a whole different direction from the roots of what Outcast use to do, so really i dont see his point.

Anyone who listned(actually LISTENED) to nases album understands that nas is saying "rap" is alive, the culture is dead and the real heroes of the music are forgottern. Cant disagree with nas on that one.

Lol, "south keeping it alive" .... southern mainstream sold itself 100% percent with all lyricism included.

Could give two fucks less about Nas. He had to stir up a bunch of made-up shit again cuz his last album flopped so hard i dont even remember the name, sumthin with disciples and shit, fuck it. The wannabe legend, hood sellout, sucka for love, window shopper. Next move Nas will do is sign with G-Unit cuz "he got respect for 50 and didnt really mean what he said on that diss song", same thing he said about Ether after he signed with Def Jam.

wow, coccoa doesnt care about nas's album..
Nas spits raw facts, the only reason it hurts you so bad is goes you praise hip hop's murderer's
The wannabe legend

ofcourse, coccoa knows more about what hip hop musc is then the LEGENDARY artists that admire Nas as an artist.
sucka for love

Maybe someday someone will love you, and you'll grow up.
window shopper.

Yeah nas prolly owns one car instead of 4-5... that matters right?
Next move Nas will do is sign with G-Unit cuz "he got respect for 50 and didnt really mean what he said on that diss song"

Nas is above g-units level, he don't needa start beef with a bunch of idiots half of which cant even rap to promote his sails.
same thing he said about Ether after he signed with Def Jam

maturity.

yea...i believe the south is kinda a problem. theres only about 3 artists from atlanta that are worth three shits, luda, t.i, n dro (im sorry, jeezy sucks so much ass), but then the problem is the ppl that sign these sucky artists. i mean honestly thought signing young joc was a good idea? hip hop has been in trouble for awhile.it stopped bein about good back in 2002. people saw lil jon n 50 cent, n said "whoa they dont gotta be good, jus a cool beat!" but i respect john because he actually tried to give emcees some shine, like ludacris, ice cube n some others, but unfortunatly the only songs that blew up were with young bloods (another WACK ASS group from atl) n e-40. i think if the rumors of nas signin royce is true, shits gunna change. and we may see a reunion of em n royce, cuz we all know dre, em, n jay are all connected, so who knows.

n coccoaa...do u really think 50 was justified in dissin nas, joe n jadakiss? jus cuz they did a song with ja rule....in that case, shouldnt he be dissin scott stortch for doin strip club wit game? should he be dissin dre cuz he worked on a song with nas AND game? should he also diss ludacris since green lantern did number one spot with him? couple reasons why he hasnt, hes not that fuckin stupid, he knows hell get slayed, second, hes got no album comin out, so y diss ppl? 3rd, he knows if he goes about beef like that, he'll have the entitre music industry against him, n im sorry, not even banks could defend against nas, jada, styles, joe budden, ludacris, t.i n whatnot.

seriously, get off 50's dick.

totally agree.everybody thinks they can make music now.they forget how hard others had to work to get where they are, and think they don't have to do that.i do agree that the culture is dead.everything is shit from shitty people right now.

ok... this is what i'm talking about. the south is so wack... except for a few artists...

ok... New York is so wack.. except for a few artists...

California is wack, except for a few artists....

i done heard some wack ass songs coming from everywhere. E-40, i think is from the West, and sucks ass. Jay-Z bores me... I'm not even going to talk about 50cent for fear of Coccoa catching feelings... Trick Trick is cool, but has some elementary rhymes.

this is my point. Hip-hop as a whole stinks right now... AS A WHOLE! there is no region responsible for it. everyone is putting out shit... shit is shit. the only difference is, people are mostly buying Southern shit. That's why a lot of artists are mad; people ain't buying they shit.

Obviously nothing, i even agree with u, but i wanted to tease u in a hardcore hiphop fan way. For hiphop fans: Any other kind of music is a piece of shit, commercial music is even bigger piece of shit. Pop and r'n'b are the epitomes of shit pieces. So narrow-minded that cant even understand that 95% of rap music is sampled from sumthin else instead of being created from 0 like every other music. Also hiphop fans tend to believe that the world revolves around them and their music and that everyone outside of them is on a coalition to destroy the hiphop community and more particulary the WHITE hiphop community cuz frankly blacks dont really give a fuck no more. Speaking of blacks, ur black so u know wut im talking about.

For hiphop fans: Any other kind of music is a piece of shit,

anyone who thinks that way is just not smart enought to think rationally, real hip hop fans appreciate all good music.

Yes

So narrow-minded that cant even understand that 95% of rap music is sampled from sumthin else instead of being created from 0 like every other music.

All hip hop started from sampling, "Turtabalism" is where it started - first there was the dj, any hip hop fan (a real fan) knows that, and appreciates a dj's good choice of music (coz thats what dj's are for)
Also hiphop fans tend to believe that the world revolves around them and their music

as does a fan of any genre.

No no no u still totally wrong. Hip hop fans dont even know there is music outside hip hop. They dont know shit. Rnb and Pop are still alot better musics than rap (unless rap shows some creativity like a singing hook or a creative loop).

Sad to say, rap samples pop music, rap samples rnb music, rap samples jazz music. No other music even sampled anything before.

Rap = sampling
Music = creating

How come sampled beats (especially soul) sound 100 times better than originally created?? Obviously rap heads aint got big nuff music knowledges to know about music, so they either copy a melody and recreate it, or totally sample it. Turntabilism is not a form of art, turntables are not instruments, and DJs are not musicians. No musician + no instrument = no music = no art.

that is but ur opinion, turntabalism IS an art, and people do learn to use it.

hip hop isnt a commercial art it was created in the underground, it was cheap, entertainment and way to get message across, and it couldve made a much better difference untill commercialism fucked it up.

And rhyming, rhyming is mc'ing, its an art, even if its not "music" it still is "hip hop" and people love "hip hop"...

Rock singers dont rap, soul singers dont rap,... etc.. they dont make beats either. It IS something unique weather u like it or not, and that alone makes it worth listning to and memorable.

Unique is it, but unique doesnt mean better. Rock musicians dont make beat, they put notes in the pentagram and create art. Same with every musician...what u tryina tell me that Pete Rock can actually equal to BB King or Dr. John?? Nigga please.

And explain me how fucking up a turntable needle and a vinyl disk can possibly be art.

but see theres a group of people that loves beats not rock. What is it that u dont understand in that. We are all free to listen to something of our like.

I aint said nothing about whos better then who, no genre should ever compete against another, thats just plain stupid.

And explain me how fucking up a turntable needle and a vinyl disk can possibly be art.

How can smudging paint with a paintbrush on a clean material possibly be art then.

You're being very close minded.
