Asher D - underrated?

Postby TRshady » Mar 1st, '08, 01:02

I tend to get over-excited at times when I come across new music that really grabs me, but it's that time again - and this time it's a mixtape I've had on my computer for a good year or so now: In Memory of the Streetfigher by Asher D.

Asher D was always my favourite from back in the So Solid Crew days, always loved his husky but clear voice with the fast and casual flow. He seems to have outdone himself in a huge way with this mixtape though, and I honestly believe he is one of the best writers in the UK, ashamed at myself for taking so long to listen to the mixtape. :o

My favourites for a while have been Sway, Plan B, Example, Professor Green, Akala and Kano to a lesser degree but Akala makes a track flow so well, with some damn intelligent lyrics which are written so well. Check out the mixtape if you can, I haven't listened to every track more then once but I've had Every Little Thing I Say and Star of The Show on repeat for days now.

Here's a link to Star of the Show: http://www.zshare.net/audio/8284600bfd7b17/
Sit back and give it a listen

Every Little Thing I Say is a better song lyrically but Star of the Show has better production more likely to grab you on first listen, check it out and tell me what you don't. I honestly don't see how any hip hop head couldn't feel this track/mixtape.

Edit: Ah fuck it, lol .. here's Every Little Thing I Say, I can imagine the UK rhymers here liking this one more: http://www.zshare.net/audio/8284720504c11d/

'Every Little Thing I Say' reminds me of one song, but i can't remember which.. thanks, i'll spend next 2 weeks with no sleep, trying to find it out. :y:

apart from that, i really enjoyed both songs. obviously Tee's got a good taste in music, so i'm waiting patiently on further uploads. <Professor Green?>
btw. do you mind posting link to the mixtape?

^ Fo sho, will post it tomorrow most likely.

Having given the mixtape a few more listens, I'd say only 7 or so of the 17 are great tracks, but it's enough to make it worth downloading. I've got two of Professor Green's mixtapes/albums if you're interested, still haven't had time to give 'em both a full listen.

Funnily Enough, i was going to recommend Asher D To Bar The Other Day.

I've Always Liked Asher D, Been A Big Fan For A Wile, Even In The So Solid Days. I Think Hes Pretty Dope And Would Always Recommend Him To Push The UK Scene.

If Anyone Wants His Stuff, I Got The Following:

Cure 4 Cancer (Mixtape)
Street Fighter Zero (Mixtape)
In Memory Of The Street Fighter (Mixtape)
Street Sibling (Album)
The Appetiser (Album)
The Only Thing They Wanna Kill Is Fucking Autotune, But Before You Gun It Down,
Know They Only Say Hip Hop Is Dead, But The Dope Shit Is Underground.
