Redman, DMX, Run DMC, Public Enemy and others provide the soundtrack to the streets for True Crime: New York City's soundtrack.
As previously reported by SOHH.com, the Funk Doc is set to be a character in the Activision game. A digitized Redman will enter the game as a reward when players reach a certain level.
Furthermore, Red's "Rush The Security," the first single off the Brick City emcee's Red Gone Wild, is slated to premiere on the soundtrack. Red also contributed two original tracks penned for the game.
The 80-song soundtrack also features previously-released classics by Nas, Blackstar, Jay-Z, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Eric B. & Rakim, Busta Rhymes, Kurtis Blow, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, Black Sheep, Jungle Brothers, Jeru The Damaja, LL Cool J, Big Pun, Black Rob, and Digable Planets, among others. The eclectic soundtrack also includes selections from legendary punk band The Ramones, and rock veteran Bob Dylan among others artists from various genres.
"When we moved the True Crime franchise to the one and only New York City we compiled a soundtrack to match the look and feel of the game," said Tim Riley, worldwide executive of music at Activision, in a statement. "Many of the artists on the soundtrack helped define the city's music scene including Jay-Z, Fat Joe, A Tribe Called Quest, New York Dolls, The Velvet Underground, My Chemical Romance, The Bravery and Iggy and the Stooges, among others, making this soundtrack the ultimate New York experience."
True Crime: New York City is set to hit stores November 16th.
