Run DMC without a doubt in this world. I mean when you say "best" I think about skill and what they did in the game. Rap was more or less disco until they came along. I mean everyone was trying to recreate the sound that The Sugar Hill Gang had by putting people over disco loops, but Russell Simmons, Rick Ruben, and the guys of Run DMC took it to a whole new level with heavy bass, harder lyrics, and a much more street feel. They really brought emceeing to the forefront. Not only that but they were miles ahead of the competition of their time lyrically. They even had success bringing Rap and Rock together. People act like that shit is new or smtn, but yeah Run DMC didn't just collab with a huge Rock group and really get Rap noticed in the mainstream (i.e. MTV) but they incorporated that sound into their entire overall style and to this day are still one of the most original, and un-copied groups around. They took this period.
