Resurrection?

Postby Relapse.LP » Oct 30th, '09, 00:36

I just gave Common's first album another spin and I gotta say, this is definitely a classic and comparable to ANY other classic hip hop album that you can possibly bring up.

The jazzy beats are so addictive and this is when No I.D. blew up as a producer, although he has quietly disappeared from the rap scene since for some unknown reason. The lyricism is just flawless: the multies possibly outnumber those on Illmatic, the wordplay is clever, and the content is so diverse and original (in 1994 and still relevant) that it's amazing that this record is rarely brought up in hip hop discussions.

Your thoughts on the album? By the way, this was the album that had "I Used to Love H.E.R." Only give the feedback if you actually listened to at least 5 of the album's songs please... :y:
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/

That's what I'm talking about, I have the album, downloaded it a few weeks back along with some other Common albums. Hope they're all good. Well I know for certain that Resurrection is gonna be hot.

You gotta listen to it, man.

The production is just jazzy and smooth and seriously, some of No I.D.'s production seems like the smoother-version of Havoc's production (Trife Life), whose beats you are fond of, I recall.

Lyric complexity possible surpasses Illmatic, actually. The metaphors and wordplay and multies are just crazy, especially on the first track "Resurrection". I love every single track on the album and that's rare.

Sounds good. You need to really listen with the lyrics in the background somewhere. Common is seriously mad-underrated. Without a doubt, this is Top 15 to me somewhere on that list.

Takes a few listens to adjust to his style, probably, but it was crazy the first time I listened to it. :worship:

Resurrection has a crazy piano loop, along with Maintaining and Orange Pineapple Juice. :y:

I Used to Love H.E.R. could have been done a LITTLE better, but it's still a classic track. :b:

So how do you like it, Xray?

I love the concept of I Used To Love H.E.R. obviously but the beat could of been a bit better, it's still a classic though!
