Dunno, how to classify it, when I hear a dope beat it's a dope beat. Usually it's beat with a dope sample (accoustic instruments or an old jazz/soul song) that get my attention. Upbeat beats as well, and beats with a deep feeling.

On the contrary, I love those old school beats with a dope piano loop over heavy kicks and snares.

Scratching and sampling is especially appealing as well. (That's why I love DJ Premier.)

Usually, blaring trumpets and a hard-hitting bass-line creates a magnificent atmosphere. :y:

What I don't like in production is...

1. Synths (G-Funk Synths are okay, but overused.)

2. Electronic Instruments in General (The radio hits nowadays have this.)

3. Over-layering (Where too many instruments are put together... sounds too complicated.)

One of my favorites beats of all time are...

The World is Yours - Pete Rock

Shook Ones Pt. II - Havoc

Paid in Full - Eric B.

Rainy Dayz - RZA

Big Poppa - Sean "Puffy" Combs

The West Coast is well-known for its beats and I love 'em but the kind of beat that I actually prefer comes from the East Coast, specifically the 90s East Coast beats. You know, the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA produced beats. Havoc's Mobb Deep beats. These darker beats, you know what I'm sayin'?

I know what you're saying, lol. :flower:

West Coast beats are okay, but the hardcore gritty-style beats are definitely from the East.

RZA track-by-track ripped apart the "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" album. :worship:

I never paid close attention to Jedi Mind Tricks's music. How would you describe it? :b:

I might check it out. :shifty:

Depends if i can get a concept going, I'm not only for most electronic synth-like music unless it sounds different and gives me a new angle to the beat. I've heard many a good beat ruined by synths and radio club tracks. I feel disappiontment that usuing synths, we can't break boundaries with musc like we were in the 90's...i swear at least a good 70% of great beats came before 2000

I generally dislike electric guitar-drenched beats. The best beats to me are simple, don't overdue it and make it watered-down.

IMO

i like beats like Nas - Hero, nothing really gangsta just energetic and upbeat, i don't like that old gangsta or Mobb Deep feel myself (love Mobb Deep though)

add a good sample or a nice piano melody and i'll dig it no doubt

what is your .02? :D

i like my beats to be sunny, i hate cloudy beats, and rain beats. snowstorm beats are epic though.

whether****

Seriously, there's no need for these feelings to thrive any longer... Don't be a jerk. Everyone makes grammatical mistakes or spelling mistakes. :n:
