2009 Interview Guru: Never Going Back :(

Postby DrRapid » Mar 14th, '10, 20:55

I really hope Guru is recovering from the heart attack he had, I wish the best for him. But this here is an interview by AllHipHop to Guru and me being a big Gang Starr fan, fan of both Guru and Premo. I cannot bear for Hip Hop to hear those words Guru had to say in June 2009. It is evident that Guru had and I guess still has been brainwashed or something by his producer Solar to make him think that Gang Starr was nothing and that Guru is way better off with Solar. Something we should know is no way near the truth. The use of autotune in a Guru album breaks my heart, and I'm being serious.

"People ask me about my ex-DJ (DJ Premier) and all that. We were never all that close. We hooked up in the studio and did great music, but we were never hanging and all that cool. Solar and I, we got tight before we even started doing music." - Guru

I just didn’t see eye to eye with Guru on this one. The legendary rapper and I disagreed from the onset of this conversation. I was looking to do an interview that discussed - in part - the 20th anniversary of Gangstarr’s No More Mr. Nice Guy, the seminal album constructed with the equally iconic DJ Premier. Guru’s primary musical priority is his new album Guru 8.0: Lost and Found, a collaborative effort with new partner/producer Solar. He's got his mind made up and he moved on a long time ago.

Read on as Guru explains his annoyance with the politics of the rap game as well as his reluctance to discuss the glorious past known as Gangstarr.
