Good White Rappers

I was recently having a little search for other good white rappers besides the obvious.

I was surprised by the amount there are that have actual hip-hop acclaim and genuinely noteworthy creativity / output.

Some that I found that some of you may be familiar with...
- Aesop Rock
- Brother Ali
- Sage Francis
- El-P

I actually found that the creativity of those guys and some others is actually more striking than a vast majority of even good black rappers. Much more diverse subject matter and originality. Probably due to the fact that white rappers have to work harder to seem legitimate and get real credibility.

So it probably weeds out the real bad and only the truly creative emerge to anywhere near the top of the ranks. Where as because it's thought of as a black artform, many shitty black rappers get accepted more easily. Ie. black rappers who get automatic acceptance of ghetto stories just because they're black vs. white rappers who get every detail of every element of their life studied lmao.

Not trying to create a racial divide here, I basically only listen to black artists besides Em, just surprised by how many actual good white rappers there were. If you check some of those guy's albums too, some of them have universal acclaim on numerous albums. Gonna be checking everything out by them.

Ill Bill is pretty good, and as far as I remember he's white...Same with Sadistik. I personally enjoy ICP's music, although I can see why that may not be an entirely popular opinion on this forum.

I can't say I've got alot of white rap on my iPod, obviously alot of Eminem, but besides that I have 2 songs by Asher Roth which I think are way above anything else he's done.

I bought Nastys album a few months back when I had a little spare cash and I sort of regret it, normally I don't mind corny rap but Jesus Christ this guy took it new levels...

Embase, I know your also from the UK so no doubt you've heard Hyperaptive, that guy IMO is incredibly talented and would recommend him to anyone, he's got 1 collab with Wax which is a youtube rapper that gets a lot of love on here, but other than that I havent checked out many white american rappers, will check out a couple of the ones you've listed on your OP tonight.

Never got into Sage Francis or Aesop Rock (aside from a few tracks) but Brother Ali is a good rapper and El-P is one of the best producer rappers, imo (especially on Funcrusher Plus).

The thing about a lot of white rappers is they tend to be either very abstract, very limited, or have bad delveries/choice of beats, which is why they don't get much credit.

Aside from Em, I think Cage is the best white emcee, his stuff with Tame One is absolutely crazy

Apathy and Little Vic are also worth checking out.

Nah I haven't really heard of Hyperaptive but I just looked him up and saw a video of him.

He's corny and cringing IMO. But if you're not from the UK you may no see that. You may just see the delivery etc. but he makes me squirm and I can tell he's just... Argh, can't explain it lmfao. UK Hip-Hop period is cringing to me though. I was trying to figure out why exactly it feels that way (as it does to many UK people). I think it's because UK hip-hop is just us trying to imitate US hip-hop in our own accents. It's like they half-adapt US stylistics and half our own, it's very odd.

Where as Grime, it's faster, it's harder, it's grimey / gritty. It's much more realistic and ironic, it's all about being a smartass and pounding rhythm. It's a much more accurate sound of Britain. Grime is our true hip-hop contribution. I think Dizzee Rascal and JME are the best of the UK. Dizzee's first two albums are something to behold. Obviously DR has sold out now and is intentionally just making hits but back when he was doing pure grime... Not many could touch him. Incredible flows.

Check out...
- Fix Up, Look sharp, Jus a Rascal and Graftin' by Dizzee to hear his astounding early rhyming, flowing and production. That's to note too, he produced his first two albums himself and the production is sublime. So much more compelling and interesting than Dre to me.

I remember in the review of Boy In Da Corner by Rolling Stone, it's funny that they're so gobsmacked by the intensity of Dizzee's rhymes and flows that they comment on how legends have been made out of such average US spitters in comparison. Actually very true. Dizzee spits marathons around most top 5's.
