Albums that are weak lyrically but you love 'em

Postby MikeNUFC » Jul 22nd, '10, 12:05

So what albums do you really enjoy that are not that good rhyme-wise

Personally, I'd say ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers.

What I love about it is ODB knows he's nothing special lyrically so he just makes enjoyable and funny music. What he lacks in lyrcial flair he makes up for in charisma. You cant help but me engrossed in his comedy value and hilarious little touches in his music.

Great to listen to someone who knows they arent amazing lyrically but doesnt let that stop them making a great ass record.

What about you?

To be honest, the majority of todays albums aren't that lyrical.
Hip Hop is infested by bubble gum rappers, especially from the South.
So,to answer your question, albums from rappers like Paul Wall,Chamillionaire,Lil Wayne...
Not anything specific though.

Return to The 36 Chambers is a great shout, RZA's beats on there are like the soundtrack to a mental asylum, and ODB, well the man wasn't a lyrical genius, but he was litterly insane! BTW, "Snakes" introduced chipmunk samples into hip hop, and it took years for any other producer to catch on, RZA is a genius :flutter:

*RZA wankfest over*

Ill say The Chronic, pretty weak lyrically, but the chemistry and smoothness of Dre, Snoop and other collabs on there is perfect, and the production, well its Dre at his best, enough said!

Get Rich or Die Trying - 50 Cent
Swan Song - Hollywood Undead

Both I'd say are pretty average lyrically but they're great albums. :y:

Hollywood Undead are awesome :worship:

lyrically they can be mixed IMO, sometimes they're on the level of some of the best writers in their genre, sometimes they write on the level of punk bands.

But the music is always good.
