Madlib

Anybody into his music? I started listening to it when I heard a couple of his beats on Mos def's Ecstatic. So I decided to start searching for some of his work and now I'm listening to one of his instrumental releases called "The Beat Konducta Volume 1-2: Movie Scenes". He definitely has some unorthodox ideas which makes it all an enjoyable listen.

Check out Toe fat and Black mozart on grooveshark (I couldn't find them on Youtube).

Madlib is a genius, his body of work is incredibly consistent, especially considering the amount of stuff he's put out, aside from RZA, 'Lib is my favorite producer

Beat Konducta Vol 1-2 is good, but you need to listen to vol 5 - one of my favorite instrumental albums

If you're looking for more Madlib, check out:
Madvillainy ( masterpiece )

Quasimoto The Unssen ( 10 years old, still WAY ahead of its time, amazing production - if you don't like the way Madlib alters his voice on here I'd advise you to track down the instrumental version )

Beat Konducta Vol 5 ( tribute album to J Dilla, mixes both of their sounds perfectly - Anthenagin' (?) is one of my favorite beats ever )

Dudley Perkins - Experssions ( Madlib produced it all, some of his most soulful work is on here, only downside is that I'm not a fan of Dudley, but these beats are too good )

Lootpack - Soundpieces Da Antidote ( 90's Madlib, some great stuff on here )

Jaylib - Champion Sound ( J Dilla rhyming over Madlib beats, Madlib rhyming over Dilla beats :worship: )

Listening to Madvillainy on Grooveshark now. His vocal samples remind me of some of RZA's early work.

I agree on that, the way he samples old cartoons and stuff reminds me of RZA's early Kung Fu movie samples
I'll be honest, Madvillainy took me about a year to get into so if you're finding it an awkward listen just give it time to sink in - it will click with you :y:

@ Chet Starr, Quasimoto is sick :b:

Definitely Chet :y:
Something like Madvillainy takes awhile to used used to because as you say its a lot more complex than you think it is at first, plus the fact it has no hooks or anything makes it even less accessible - but then you realise thats how its supposed to be

And I agree with you on MF DOOM, a lot of the time I don't have a clue what he's talking about, but it sounds dope!

Like this track: ( sorry I'm not sure how to embed vids on here ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNGnCLod-qg

^ I thought that was about women, then I realised its about drugs and alchohol :worship:

And yep, DOOM is a quality producer too, love his beats on "Take Me To Your Leader"
We need more MF DOOM and Madlib fans on here!

BTW, I heard that "Batty Boyz" is about Lil Wayne - haha DOOM is nuts!

I love Madlib's production, I first got into him through Madvillainy which was amazing to me. Even though it's weird by the way it's made, random instrumentals, no choruses, random beats here and there, Doom's weird lyrics. I just really like it and it's through the combination of them two together. I've been listening to some of Madlib's Medicine Shows but haven't listened to that Quasimoto stuff yet.
