ARCADE ON FIRE
Merge Records Act’s Third Album, The Suburbs, Will Challenge Eminem for Top Spot
August 4, 2010
The HITS album sales chart is about to get some Canadian content.
Red-hot Montreal band Arcade Fire’s third Merge Records album, The Suburbs, will challenge hip-hop superstar Eminem for the #1 spot on next week’s Top 50.
Based on one-day sales reports from those retail contacts foolish enough not to take a summer vacation, the band should do between 125-150k, which should beat out fellow indie band Vampire Weekend’s chart-topping total of 121k back in January. Arcade Fire’s last album, 2007’s Neon Bible, debuted with 92k. The band’s new release has been accompanied by much hoopla, including a four-star Rolling Stone rave and an adulatory Jon Pareles N.Y. Times Arts & Leisure feature.
