ARCADE ON FIRE
Merge Records Act’s Third Album, The Suburbs, Will Challenge Eminem for Top Spot

August 4, 2010

The HITS album sales chart is about to get some Canadian content.

Red-hot Montreal band Arcade Fire’s third Merge Records album, The Suburbs, will challenge hip-hop superstar Eminem for the #1 spot on next week’s Top 50.

Based on one-day sales reports from those retail contacts foolish enough not to take a summer vacation, the band should do between 125-150k, which should beat out fellow indie band Vampire Weekend’s chart-topping total of 121k back in January. Arcade Fire’s last album, 2007’s Neon Bible, debuted with 92k. The band’s new release has been accompanied by much hoopla, including a four-star Rolling Stone rave and an adulatory Jon Pareles N.Y. Times Arts & Leisure feature.

Recovery is breaking so many fuckin records it ain't funny. LTWYL will top I Gotta Feeling in digital sales eventually.

Looks like the 7th week is up for grabs. Hopefully, Arcade Fire only sell around 130k, and Em doesn't drop more than 10%...Em still got a chance of regaining what is rightfully his :worship:
Imagine if Marshall had never picked up the pen...

The first music album to score 5 weeks in both countries since 2002's The Eminem Show. Which did the same.

But Recovery held on to the top spot in the U.K. for a fifth week. This matches the five weeks it held at #1 in the U.S. Recovery is the first album to spend five or more weeks at #1 in both countries since Eminem's 2002 album The Eminem Show.

Don't matter what year or even decade it is, Em has this industry on lock :worship:

so another tight...
w/e I'm tired of caring about #1 position, it lost the consecutive weeks anyway so I only care about the actual sale now :coffee:

i'm starting to embrace the fact that recovery can't be no.1 forever. and it's been a good run. hopefully he'll be back on top next week. no actually it doesn't matter as long as he's still doing good numbers. looks like i'm repeating a lot of what has been said in previous posts but whatever.

oh and what's up with all these rock/metal bands doing surprisingly well all of a sudden? just curious, i've got nothing against them or anything.

It's all good since it's selling very well each week.

Sales is really what we remember, not number 1 6 straight weeks.

Their fans probably want to beat Em.

See, Em really is reviving music.

lol now it matters to them. where were they when their favorite bands released albums a couple years ago? besides em isn't even in the same genre as them. i guess he indeed is one of those giants that everybody looks up to but wishing to tackle and take over the reign on the sly.
