I use cool edit pro 2

Prob better ones but its simple to use, and lots of people here use it so you can get help easily.
I know they were bought out by adobe. So a newer version is like adobe audition 7 I think.

Like I said, simple to use and people here use it

I think Reaper is free.

It's totally worth getting a license, though.

Reaper is not free you can download it and evaluate it for 60 days though with full functionality.

It's $60 for the discounted license and $225 for full commercial license.

Adobe audition 2.0 (which is actually called Cool Edit Pro i think) and Audacity are the only FREE and USEFUL programs for mixing/mastering songs that i have used.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
http://www.oldversion.com/windows/cool-edit-pro-2-0

If you want to spend some cash, there's Fl Studio 11, Adobe Audition 6, Cubase, Pro tools 11 (i think u still need to buy an mbox to use it tho), Ableton Live, etc. But these are expensive and complicated to use. I would recommend the above two free ones if you're new. If you're looking to create beats, you need one of the these ones cause you're not gonna be able to make a beat in either Cool Edit or Audacity. I have used all these programs before and I know of them all as great programs. What you chooose to use is all up to preference. And realize that, these are only DAW, digital audio workplace. Meaning you will still need VSTs, mp3,waves,soundfonts to create beats.

I heard there's some glitch where you can evaluate it infinitely.

But yeah, if you're broke as hell, you might as well pirate that shit.

Reaper is a great DAW, very user-friendly. But it does cost a little pretty penny. But it's worth it.

OR you can just pirate that shit. Ya know.
