I hate when people think all "freestyles" are off the top

This irritates me too. People claiming it's not a real freestyle because it's not off the top are ignorant.

It's not a freestyle, it's just a free verse

Why can't people just call it a free verse, or a throw away verse. It makes everything more complex then shit needs to be

Freestyle is basically using a long-ass or short verse OR 2 or more verses on any beat and there is no hook or only one hook.
There is rarely three hooks.

Rabbit Run and Demon Inside are examples.

Freestyle is a homonym for both "off the top" rhyming and a free verse, and that is fine. People who don't get the two meanings can go and fuck themselves. In fact, if you don't grasp homonyms, homophones, double entendres and stuff, Hip-Hop isn't for you anyway.

like slim fiasco said, freestyle= off the top. Writing a long, one verse song is NOT a freestyle, IMO at least.

That's actually not what he said.

He said freestyle could be a reference to both ways.
