in cool edit, highlight a part of you recording where you ONLY hear the background noise.... so when you record, leave a few seconds of silence... and highlight at least 0.3second of pure background noise (or hiss, or whatever you wanna call it lol)....then go to "noise reduction>noise reduction>" and click on "get profile from reduction"... and then "close" or "ok"... after that you highlight you're whole vocal track, and go to "noise reduction>noise reduction" and click on OK....that's it!
