hype wrote:for or against? personally i have no problem with exterminating a spider, but some people are heavily against such a thing and demand that it's 'set free' back outside.

imagine what it's like though, for a spider to be sat there on the wall, just chilling, then BANG. out of nowhere it's dead.

the scary thing is some of them survive the first hit. if we were hit by something with the same force, on the same scale, we humans would be mincemeat.

You have no reason to believe spiders experience pain in a similar way humans do.

They almost surely do not experience fear, panic, etc.

And humans are not he first animal on the planet to kill.

And at what point of evolutionary development can you complain about killing a living organism? You kill bacteria and viruses using soap, hand sanitizer, Lysol, etc.

explain why spiders crawl away when they see that you're about to kill them...
well, sometimes they dont. they might be sleeping. or died of starvation because they're too stupid to realize no flies are coming. ever.

Just because they are reacting does not mean they are experiencing fear or panic. They can not comprehend the outcome of what would happen if you squashed them. It is just an embedded reaction.

Humans have similar reactions. A lot of what we do is after fully comprehending the situation and exhibiting an emotion, but not all our reactions are dictated like that. You can probably think of half a dozen examples.

I kill them on sight. Any insect, but especially spiders. I'm not afraid of them but I hate them. I don't torture them though, so with my hand, shoe, or whatever is available I squish them, then throw them away. Any insect, really, except for lady bugs...but I don't know I don't kill lady bugs lol.

everything that's alive and has eyes can sense when a fifty story monster is about wants to kill them.

My point is simply that, just because the animal can sense danger and flees does not mean it is experiencing fear as you or I would experience fear. It can simply be a visceral reaction. The spider does not understand the possible consequences / outcomes of the situation.

I'm not surprised. I remember reading somewhere that they outnumber us like 1,000,000: 1 or some huge number like that, don't remember the exact ratio. But yeah, if they were bigger, they would probably easily overtake us. Scary thought lol.
