Fallout

Postby Hadez » May 21st, '10, 18:02

anybody played any of the games in the series? i know Maybe has.

i picked up Fallout 3 for the first time for 360 a couple weeks ago. it's the first Fallout i've played but i love it for the same reasons i like the Elder Scrolls games. i downloaded Fallout 2 for PC last night and i'm finding it hard for myself to get into it. not because the graphics are old (i still enjoy Morrowind despite its inferior graphics to Oblivion), and not because of the story cuz the story is fine. but i'm finding it difficult to grasp the controls, how things work, and over-all just how to play the damn game. i feel like i'm missing something because i don't know what i'm doing.

so if anybody else wants to share feelings about the series: why you like it, why you don't, tips for the games, hopes for future games etc... please share :y:

That's exactly how I felt when I played Fallout 3 for the first time. When I had to escape the vault I didn't know what I was doing. VATS confused me and the Pip Boy was confusing. I didn't know what I was looking at or for. It'll come to you. It actually took me about a month. I wanted to return the game after the first day. Now it is my favorite game. Fallout: New Vegas is dropping this fall. I've been keeping check on it. It's going to be 100x better because they've improved and added on to everything. Mods for weapons, aim down sight, 2x more weapons than FO3, gambling, better companion control, Hardcore Mode, etc.. the list goes on.

I fucking love Fallout 3. I haven't played any of the other Fallouts and I'm not a huge RPG fan, only got into it after Mass Effect. Anyway, ever since coming out of that vault I loved it. I pretty much did every single thing you could in the game and get every single awesome thing possible in it. McMaybe has probably done even more I bet you. I bought all the DLC's: Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta. With PL being my favorite and BS being an essential one for the game.

Well Point Lookout was the only DLC with a proper map to explore and I loved it but the others were still pretty good. Operation Anchorage is pretty much a shooter, it's a linear DLC with nothing to explore but it's good for getting some new cool stuff (best armour) and XP points if you want to level up. The Pitt I think is much more interesting and you can explore the map more, I don't remember if you could go back to it or not. It's still a good DLC where you decide what to do in the end and the theme or environment of it I really like. Mothership Zeta was a bit disappointing. Even though you get a few cool weapons the story wasn't very good at all. You can explore the spaceship but only to do missions really. After completing it you can go back to it but almost everything is shut so it's hardly explorable.

It isn't as bad as I made it sound. :sweating: It's just cause it was the last DLC to come out and you expected it to be better really. Not many people were too happy with Operation Anchorage either due to it being 100% linear and more like a shooter. I think that's it's worth the XP points, Gauss Cannon and best armour in the game which doesn't need repairing. :y: In the beginning I wasn't too fond of The Pitt but it grew on me and I enjoyed it. So it's all up to you.

EDIT: In order of favorites:

Point Lookout
Broken Steel
The Pitt
Operation Anchorage
Mothership Zeta

i don't really see the point of playing if you don't get Broken Steel. even without increasing the level cap, the fact that you can't continue to play without it is kinda crucial.

I apologize for my ignorance in my previous post. I had no idea how dope this game was, and at the time I hadn't played much. Anyways this game is really cool, but the start is irritating as hell. I got poisoned by water, and neither is there a fucking bed around, but neither do I have any meds or that needle to fix myself up. I'm basically fucked right now... My guy is walking slow as hell due to poisoning, and now damn... Guess I'ma have to restart from a previous checkpoint. Fuck if only they had that option in the game, it would of made it less stressful.

the game is defaulted to auto save when going from inside to outside and the other way around. so you might have a more recent save than you think.
but the game is pretty tough in the beginning though. the only way around that is to play like a "rough draft" play through where you just run around finding things. then you could start over and you'd have the advantage of knowing where all the survival items are in the beginning. the game definitely has a trial and error type feel.
