Eminem will never fall off like 50 Cent because he actually has talent.

I think one of the factors that has given him longevity is that he always remained true to his hip-hop roots and to himself. He never went and started rapping about having money and bitches despite him being the richest and most famous rapper in the world. He has always just strived to be the best rapper that he can be and focused on making good music that we can all relate to.

Are you their personal banker?

Don't hold a grudge at me because you think that a clitoris is a hole, little virgin.

That's true. Jay,50 and Diddy are all richer than Fem.

Fair enough. OK then, despite being one of the richest rappers in the world, he never bragged about it. There you go :)

Longevity in the music industry comes down to 2 things:

Creativity & and the ability to be different/ stand out from everyone else.

Em achieves both quite easily.
Imagine if Marshall had never picked up the pen...

On the subject of No Apologies, does anyone know why the line "like Beyonce's pot belly" was taken out of it? Was it outta respect for Jay?

sslp
: Two Classics in a row, gathering a huge fan-base, anticipated/criticised like crazy.
mmlp

8 mile: arguably one of the best hip hop films ever made, which also spawned the 8 mile soundtrack, which spawned lose yourself... enough said.

Eminem show: At this point Em had did no wrong so naturally his large fan base is still following him, and as Em said himself this album solidified his place in Hip hop.

Now the infamous Encore, People expected another classic and why not ? it seemed as if he improved with every album, so of course it would sell well but after people had heard it many had said Em had fell off, so why did they stick by him ?

Well with Em taking a 5 year hiatus People were eager to hear what he had to say his core fans and casual alike.

So Relapse came along and it sold well also because it was his comeback and lets not kid ourself some Em fans will buy his shit regardless of quality. And since because of Relapse's content Em fell off a little Relevance-wise on mainstream terms, but then roll's along not afraid and everyone remembers who Em is again and the same thing applies to LTWYL and the actual album Recovery.

Now with the success of Recovery and mainstream appeal Em has gained new fans, who along with his old fans are awaiting his next release... So there you have it the story of Em's longevity.

Eminem's longevity is crazy, no question. Not many can match it.

However, the 50 Cent comments are completely ignorant. 50 Cent left hip hop the same way Eminem did really, he took other directions and Hip Hop was the last thing on his mind. He then came back to recording music for the sake of putting music out there, there was 0 motivation for him, even then the focus on the music was more so to do with his directorial debut film which accompanied the album, that was clearly the focus. His album leaked 1 month before it's release, that destroys anyone. Adding to it the lack of promotion, it suffered. It still was the 3rd highest selling hip hop album of the year.

Eminem's lucky in the sense that his loyal fans are a group that buys albums no matter what. Also in the sense that he's so good he can gather new fans, 50 Cent's content doesn't allow for him to do so, his music is directed at certain demographics and nothing more, whereas Eminem's appeal is much larger.

50 Cent went through with BISD what every great rapper has gone through - Nas with everything after 'It was written' up until Stillmatic; Jay-Z twice, Outkast twice etc.
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".

It's crazy to think of all the 14 year olds now who were 6 when Eminem Show came out.

Now they're hearing him for the first time and many will scoop up his past catalogue. So now he has a new generation of fans, plus all the fans who were teens when he first came out, and even the fans who were in their twenties/thirties when he came out.

So he has 4 decades worth of people who are fans...this is absolutely crazy. I don't know what else to compare it to.

I'm in the 15 year old category... but by no-means a "new" Em fan.
