My track by track comparison, doing it in order because I noticed that many of the tracks coincidentally are similar in this fashion:
Cold Wind Blows vs. 3 A.M.
The battle of the "kill people" songs. Cold Wind Blows is a solid track, but for lyrical play and originality, 3 A.M. beats it out. Plus the singing at the beginning of Cold Wind Blows nearly ruins the track for me;
Verdict: 3 A.M. (0-1)
Talkin To Myself vs. My Mom
Two self reflection songs. Talkin To Myself has superior subject matter/tone and a better hook, but My Mom has better rhymes and flow. Equal production.
Verdict: Tie (0-1)
On Fire vs. Insane
Ranting about his past and doing crazy things in both songs. Insane is a superior track in every way, IMO.
Verdict: Insane (0-2)
Wont Back Down vs. Bagpipes from Baghdad
The two experimental beat, punchline songs. Won't Back Down is terribly produced, with some terribly unfunny jokes. Bagpipes is not too much better, but its generally a better version of the same type of song.
Verdict: Bagpipes from Baghdad (0-3)
W.T.P. vs. Hello
The dancy/catchy sort of songs. White trash party wins here, hands down. Hello has some overly long lines and is not nearly as catchy, with a weak hook.
Verdict: W.T.P. (1-3)
Going Through Changes vs. Same Song and Dance
The first two songs without coincidences, except maybe the tone. Same Song and Dance is a more creative song, but emotionally and delivery wise, GTC kills.
Verdict: Going Through Changes (2-3)
Not Afraid vs. We Made You
Ah, the two first singles. Both are incredibly corny, with some unfunny and some funny jokes, some stupid lines and the radio-friendly happy beats. This one will be called a tie.
Verdict: Tie (2-3)
Seduction vs. Medicine Ball
Two directionless, nonsensical sex related songs. Seduction has very boring delivery, too slow at the start, and doesnt deliver enough rhymes, even by the end. Hook even suffers from this. Medicine Ball is far superior.
Verdict: Medicine Ball (2-4)
No Love vs. Stay Wide Awake
Two songs to show off lyrical power and great flow. Lyrically the songs are equal, but No Love kills with the beat, a great collaboration and excellent hook.
Verdict: No Love (3-4)
Space Bound vs. Old Times Sake
No coincidence in these two songs. Old Times Sake is fun to listen to, but Space Bound beats it with emotion and a great hook.
Verdict: Space Bound (4-4)
Must Be the Ganja vs. Cinderella Man
Drugs vs. metaphors for drugs. As far as I'm concerned, these songs are equally good.
Verdict: Tie (4-4)
25 to Life vs. Deja Vu
Both songs are extremely emotional, filled with great rhymes, flow and excellent beats. However, the hook, and some slightly better rhymes edge this one over to Deja Vu.
Verdict: Deja Vu (4-5)
So Bad vs. Beautiful
As much as I love to listen to So Bad, Beautiful is far superior.
Verdict: Beautiful (4-6)
Almost Famous vs. ________
Since Recovery has an extra track, and it makes sense for two collaborations to face off, I'm gonna call Almost Famous a winner by default, and a point for more content.
Verdict: Almost Famous (5-6)
Love the Way You Lie vs. Crack a Bottle
The two major collabs. LTWYL kills it. lol
Verdict: Love the Way You Lie (6-6)
You're Never Over vs. Underground
No competition here. Underground is the bomb.
Verdict: Underground (6-7)
Hidden Track (Untitled) vs. Hidden Skit (Ken Kaniff)
I'll make an exception to the skit rule here because theyre two hidden tracks. Untitled is a nice little easter egg, decent to listen a couple times. Ken Kaniff is plain creepy.
Verdict: Untitled (7-7)
The final score is 7-7, with three ties.
If you remove the fact that Almost Famous is a free point, and that Untitled vs. Ken Kaniff isn't really fair, Relapse wins, but thats not the point here.
The point is that Relapse is underrated and Recovery is overrated.
The comparison points to the fact that Relapse has a stronger Opening and Mid-End section, while Recovery has a superior Mid-Start and Ending.
Feel free to disagree, this is my opinion, and if you have a decent argument for why you disagree, go ahead and post it, I'm interested to see how other people will view this.
