So I bult a new machine

Postby Elision » Dec 25th, '10, 02:12

Intel i7 980x processor
ASUS Rampage 3 motherboard
EVGA GTX480 graphics card
6 gigs of 1700 RAM
1000 Watt Kingwin Black Series power supply
64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate

UPDATE (5/14/11)
Bumped up to 12gigs of RAM (3Gx4)
Added a 2nd GTX480
Overclocked the 980x to 4.1GHz
Added 2 2TB hard drives (one internal, and one external)
Added a bunch of pretty blue LED
Added an NZXT Sentry LX dual-bay fan controller
Added watercooling to the CPU
Swapped the 1000w power supply for a 950w modular one
Added a PCI slot hot air extractor

Installing iTunes and a few games right now, can't wait to see how hard I can push this processor, I'll do some recording tests later

PS: Anyone got a solid Sony Vegas 10 crack?

Haha not sure, I don't play. But I doubt there's anything this GTX480 and this i7 6 core 908x can't handle. I did some overclocking tests this morning and I ended up being able to push this processor to 4.7 GHz

I have an i5. I love it. I don't even see why it would need to be faster.

Hey, You ever fuck with..what do they call it...Over clocking I think?

You should look into it if you havent or dont know what it is. Im not sayin I know much about it...I understand its basically "tricking" your computer into having the processor run faster/work harder than they have it set up to run.

Basically, make your computer run a shit load faster than its built to. The reason the build it to run at the speed its designed for though, is because "overclocking" gets the processor extremely hot...so you need to have some ultra cooling methods. Or just know what the fuck your doing when it comes to overclocking in general. A guy of mine told me about it and said its really easy to over heat your shit and even melt/set shit on fire. So, you gotta be careful and know what your doing. But, you can push that beast of a computer even more and turn it into a fuckin Super Beast.

Yes, i'm overclocking @ 4.4GHz right now and running stable (the default is 3.33 on the 980x). I recently installed watercooling and a PCI slot hot-air extractor, along with another 6 gigs of DDR3 RAM to bump me up to 12. ;)

The i7 980x is the best processor on the market right now, and I'm running it on the ASUS Rampage 3 Extreme mobo. It's set up to shut itself down if over-heating occurs for more than 60 seconds. But like I said, I'm running watercooling directly to my processor (Corsair H70), along with 3 200mm fans running at 700 RPM (the watercooling extraction fans are running at 2000 RPM) all in a Coolermaster HAF 932, so frying my processor isn't a problem on my radar.

Also, the Rampage 2 and 3's and designed to refuse booting up if I you try to overclock too high.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but that sounds fucking awesome. :worship:

I7 pretty much destroys the competition...In this day and age, anyone still with single/dual processors need to be shot.
