Soulja boy did not kill hip hop, if anything he helped expand it to a much stupider audience.

Waka is dope too, it takes a lot of balls to name urself that.

@OP Hip Hop never got killed, the mainstream just got more wack. Theres always going to be people that are good and people that are bad in every position possible whether it's music, movies, tv or whatever.
I don't judge shit off of the bad, that's like saying the movie industry is dead after watching Epic Movie.

P.S. that picture I posted is a reference to the movie Borat so don't ban me thinking i'm on some racist shit :coffee:

I know it was never killed, I never said it was. I love hiphop right now, there's loads of dope artists out. The internet has made it even easier for talented guys to get their music out.

I think a lot of you are misconstruing what I said. I am by no means cosigning or defending Waka, Gucci, or Soulja. I don't like their music (save the rare radio banger) and I think, for the most part, they are incredibly wack. All I'm saying is, who cares? Why waste time hating on them? There has always been and always be wack rappers, just like there will always be wack artists in any genre. If someone wants to listen to them, I don't care, their loss.

Yeah I was agreeing with you on that point, I personally don't give a shit how people judge hip hop their loss if they think Wocka Flocka represents it good enough so they don't get into it. Thats why I was saying it's equivalent to judging all movies after watching Epic Movie or judging all games after playing Superman for N64 or staying a virgin after seeing Susan Boyle. I'm still gonna make fun of wack shit no matter where I see it for my own amusement but I don't let the bad turn me off from the good.

Because it's that apathetic notion that as long you turn a blind eye to it, it doesn't matter. When in reality that's one of the worst things you could do, the fans need to be smart and when you have stains like Wacka/Souljia/ representing Hip Hop than it not only turns away potential fans from the genre, but is just straight up disgraceful.

This might be a red herring and I'm probably babbling but if Nas ignored the present state of Hip Hop at the time HHID was released, than you wouldn't have people wondering if the genre was really dead to begin with. Which equals no movement or motivation to make better music, and people would have been perfectly fine with the trash in the radio at the time.

While yes declaring HHID was controversial to say the least, it at least brought attention to the fact that Hip Hop (the mainstream anyway) was hurting at the time and needed a movement otherwise it would have been stale and stagnant.

It's the same reason why you liked to express your "Free Speech" on saying Earl is wack and I Need A Doctor was a disappointment.

Everyone understands what you're saying clearly. Nobody is saying that they're so terrible that you should be ashamed for defending them. The reason why we express our opinion on music is because...it's music. It's what we live, it's what we listen to. There's the good, and the bad, and I have every right to ridicule the bad because music is one of those genres where you can be fed something shitty until you eventually start eating it. Yes, they do "kill" hip hop, because they are on the forefront of it. Unlike Vanilla Ice and laughable acts who have a 1 hit wonder, there are hip hop "fans" who genuinely believe these people are near the GOAT title.

I hate them because right now they are a large part of the culture around me and because of people like them we have the corny phrase "Retards Attempting Poetry". And yes, there is always terrible music, this is by far the worst of the worst though.

And I like how you made a thread complaining about how it's pointless to complain.

Agree with Satire, seriously Freespeech we all know you like to be diplomatic and flaunt your eclectic tastes such as being able to simultaneously bump Nicki Minaj and DZK, but there comes a point where you have no ground to defend you stance. Your whole foundation is shit, I mean I can understand defending Lil Wayne and Cash money even, but Wacka/Gucci/Souljia, no they're terrible diseases to the genre that need to be eradicated.

It isn't turning a blind eye, it's just knowing that there is no point in fighting a losing battle. And before you misconstrue that statement, I simply mean there will always be wack music no matter how much we try to avoid it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't accept bad music, it just means we don't really need to worry about it.

Hip hop today is, in general, much better that the Crunk and (bad) Dirty South music that was dominant in 06 when Nas said that. Dudes like Cudi or Kanye are at least introspective and somewhat thoughtful, compared to WHATTTTT YEAHHHHH OKKKKKKK.

This is a hip hop forum. Our input obviously will never matter but the point is expressing our opinion to our peers for discussion.

This is a horrible meaningless excuse, what about golden ages? Where the good albums outweigh the bad? Yes there will always be wack, but there needs to be good to outweigh the shit.

I do agree with this sorta, hell we're better off (mainstream wise) than we were when P diddy was running the radio.

I do realize the hypocrisy of complaining about complaining, but I wasn't just addressing the specific thread but the constant onslaught of "wack bashing". I'm all for complaining about something, just not nonstop.

Earl isn't wack, he's just nothing special. Tyler is crazy dope though. And I initially thought INAD was very subpar, stylistically. I revised that when I saw the vid. I realized nothing else would have worked with that vid, and gave it a 10/10.

The good used to outway the bad by a greater margin because it was much harder to get music out. No internet, which is how dudes like Soulja get their ish out. They had to build careers off of getting respect from cyphers, freestyling, etc. If you were wack, you never got a chance.

I could find a quote of you specifically saying the word wack but I won't because I've already expressed my godliness over you too much today.

and I realize from every one of your threads that you are all for complaining. You haven't addressed anything or proven a point as to why we're wrong though.

Plus if you're annoyed by the non-stop bitching, you could always "just ignore" my humble ass, since you're obviously "fighting a losing battle" :flutter:

I searched my posts, I never said he was wack, I did say he blows once, so same thing. I probably worded that too strong, in the same post I said he had a bad voice and mediocre lines, which I stand by.

I am all for "complaining" though I prefer "critiquing". I critique Em's stuff more than anyone because I hold him to such a high standard. I just don't beat a dead horse. And critiquing Waka is like telling the kid in special ed at your elementary school that he's stupid, it's just obvious and pointless. Of course I haven't proved you wrong, you haven't proved me wrong either. If you can whip up some proof that we shouldn't stop bitching about wack rappers constantly, fan flipping tastic, but you can't, it's a damn forum.
