N e 1 who knows anything about mixing/mastering/quality,help

Postby RainMan44 » Apr 15th, '11, 05:38

I recently recorded a song, and the studio gave me all the different files/tracks on a CD (vocals for verse 1, vocals for verse 2, chorus, doubles, adlibs, etc.)....now I need to email these files to my friend so he adds another verse, and also mixes/masters it for me.

But we have decided that emailing reduces the quality, so I am going to rip the tracks on the CD to my computer, and burn it on another CD, so one for me, and one for him...

My question is, if I rip it and burn it on the new CD, will the new CD that I burned have less quality than the original CD it came from?
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

Well, I THINK he gave it to me in .wav (because he had told me to convert to mp3 before emailing...I'm guessing it's .wav because .wav won't email...which is the reason he asked me to convert)....so, I just popped the disc in my computer, ripped into my Windows Media Player, and stuck a new CD in it, burned it....the thing now is, I got to mail it to him because he lives a couple hours away. Do you think i should send it with FedEx/UPS, or I can send it through normal mail?

lmao that I dont know, I live in Australia, cant help you with that.

you should know NEVER to convert .mp3 to .wav. its stupid. beacuse once converted to mp3 it wont return the quality back. so dont email it to him unless you dont mind turning it to mp3, but it will be stupid turning it back to .wav later (unless is a distribuiton requirement)

I just mailed it to him, thanks for your help btw :y:

I can't believe the studio I went to told me to convert to mp3
I'm definitely not going back there again if they don't know their shit.

Wav is mathematically lossless no matter how many times it's processed..It's like a bmp file for images.
If you make a data disc and put the wavs on then you will loss no quality at all.
it's like copying the file to your hard drive.
Don't scratch the disc though because even the most powerful disc readers may make the files glitch up.
