There’s a louse that eats fish’s tongues, and then acts as a replacement!

Cymothoa exigua, the tongue-eating louse, is a monster straight from your nightmares. These little guys crawl in through the gills, attach to the host’s tongue, and begin feeding.

The louse (technically a crustacean) drains the tongue’s blood until it atrophies and dies. Then it remains attached to where the tongue used to be, acting as a tongue! The host fish will actually use the louse as its tongue, not even knowing the difference. Cymothoa exigua supposedly never attack humans like this. Then again, maybe you should check your tongue and make sure it hasn’t been replaced with a tiny blood-sucking crustacean.
