Is Eminem's sick relationship to his mother and his inability to trust women to attribute to a classic Oedipus complex?
On "I'm Back" he fills the ubiquitous metaphor of being a "motherfucker" with denotative substance - and it's probably not a coincidence that Eminem desires the death of his father at other points in his musical career ( "And by the way, when you see my dad / Tell him that I slit his throat in this dream I had" )
He seems discern his mother as woman, as a feasible object of desire:
( "When I was little I used to get so hungry I would grow fits / how you gonna breast-feed me, mom? You ain't got no tits!" )
( "Shut up slut, you're causing too much chaos / Just bend over and take it like a slut, okay Ma?" )
The suggested fantasy of incest in "I'm Back" is obviously known to us all:
"'Cause if I ever stuck it to any singer in showbiz
It'd be Jennifer Lopez, and Puffy you know this!
I'm sorry Puff, but I don't give a fuck if this chick was my own mother
I still fuck her with no rubber and cum inside her
And have a son and a new brother at the same time
And just say that it ain't mine, what's my name?"
Of course Eminem's incestuous thoughts depend on the premise that the "woman" is a girl as appealing as sex-idol Jennifer Lopez - but perhaps the fact that the breach of taboo comes in so casually makes it even beastlier. It seems that the coveted-hated mother lights up in every female figure.
J. Lo is then consequently degraded to a minor character in the course of the sentence, whereas the subjunctive mother gains an independent existence, while the breach of taboo is lead into absurd highs (or lows), with Eminem claiming deliberately not to use a condom and, in further consequence, denying the paternity.
I don't really know where I'm going with this, but I was thinking about Eminem's crazy relations with women while listening to I'm Back and this just crossed my mind.
