Has Em fallen off as a producer?

Postby SoldierShady » Nov 16th, '11, 02:49

I think he feels he isn't capable anymore. And to an extent, I kind of think so too. Why (really) hasn't he produced solid tracks in the past, what, 2 years? Yeah he did Beautiful, which was pretty sub-par. Things get worse was good. Just good. I understand the whole reaching out to other producers in order to expand as an artist, but why (really) pay someone like Boi-1Da for a beat, when you could easily produce a track that's a billion times better and easier on the ears (unless you've fallen off. )?

Think about it guys.

I don't think he produced lately simply cause he didn't want to. He wanted to focus purely on writing. Which I'm pretty sure he's said anyways. Maybe not.

If he put in work/time to produce, I'm sure he could do it just fine, again...And I really hope he chooses to on his next album.

Sadly, I agree.
How can we be certain that Em won't be doing production for his next album though...?
I hope he doesn't take the easy way out and pay more producers..
Then again, from 2009-2011 he had a lot of stuff he wanted to put out and probably didn't give a shit about beats.

He basically wanted to rush things sorta, even though he did put thought into many songs..
Sigh, I guess only time will tell really.

If Em is willing to start grinding drum pattern-wise in the studio like old times, then maybe he can fall back on.

At the moment, he's really just trying to get his rap game back on track it seems.

I don't think you can call "not feeling capable" and "fallen off" the same thing.

Well didn't he produce "Elevator"?

That's a deceptively good beat. The melody underneath it is great.

Was it an already produced beat or rather recent?

He produced a significant amount of tracks on Relapse and Relapse 2 but
i) He wanted to focus on writing for Recovery
ii) Mr Porter told him to "expand his artistry" because he had been doing the same thing for a while
iii) some producers have made sik beats you cant resist - Welcome to Hell :flutter:

So, to answer your question- no.

I think the reason he went for Boi-1da beats in the first place was that he was trying to reach a broader audience and he knew that producers like him were gonna help him achieve that mainstream success he was reaching for with Recovery. It's possible that in this regard he felt his production skills were perhaps a little dated.

On top of that he doesn't spend as much time with Dre as he used to, and practically no time anymore with the Bass Bros, who were always influences on his style of production, and I'm pretty sure they did a lot of additional production and mastering on his earlier works.

But I don't think that's enough for you us to judge yet whether or not he's actually fallen off as a producer.

I don't know when exactly this is from, but it's supposedly produced by Em and one of the dopest beats I've heard in a while, so:
