He also turned down $15 for a movie with 50 Cent.
And he also resisted all commercial offers and licensing for basically a decade.
I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't do things for money.
And he's shockingly rich, I honestly don't think he would give a shit.
A few points...
Touring/shows, commercials & movies etc... is Em's business, not Interscope's. For example, if Em were to make a movie for $15m or "one show in Australia" for $6m, Interscope wouldn't profit - in
direct economic terms. Indirectly, of course, record sales - "in the area" - are likely to increase when artists tour.
* Also, Em's management know's what they're doing. Thinking long-term has been a winning concept. Sure, Em could probably make 5 movies a year and a couple of commercials, and make HUGE money, but... Em is not an actor per-sé, and these movies would lack quality, and when you're overexposed (commercials etc.) your market-value drops. Em would lose artistic respect, and fans. This could work though... in short-term. *
Whilst when it comes to
music/recordings, Em has obligations to his label. Of course, neither of us here, knows exactly what these [obligations] are. But one thing is for sure, labels want to maximize profit. I'm also quite sure that Interscope has its "standards" (and with Em, these "standards" are high), there is a certain amount of money you'll need to pay for an Em feature, certain percentages of the profits from the album will be going to Interscope/Em. Why do you guys think Em wasn't featured on Young Jeezy's album?
You must also remember that to Interscope, "Eminem" - as a money making machine - is a long-term project. Having too many features - in a short period of time - can lead to over-exposure, and a dropping demand. Em during this past decade has been this sort of mystical figure, not the dude you'll see on every event etc.., but when he does appear, there are often big headlines & a lot of buzz.
Oh, and
"he's shockingly rich, I honestly don't think he would give a shit.". If Em really wasn't caring at all for money, he wouldn't require such monstrous amounts for the shows he's been doing lately in Australia/Canada/US/Europe...
Don’t forget, the music industry is a business.
