I'm just so fuckin' depressed, I just can't seem to get out this slump
If I could just get over this hump
But I need something to pull me out this dump,
I took my bruises, took my lumps
Fell down and I got right back up
But I need that spark to get psyched back up
In order for me to pick the mic back up
I don't know how or why or when I ended up in this position I'm in
I'm starting to feel decent again
So I decided just to pick this pen
Up and try to make an attempt to vent
But I just can't admit
Or come to grips with the fact that I may be done with rap
I need a new outlet, and I know some shit's so hard to swallow
But I just can't sit back and wallow
In my own sorrow
But I know one fact I'll be one tough act to follow
One tough act to follow
I'll be one tough act to follow
Here today, gone tomorrow
But you'd have to walk a thousand miles

[Chorus:]
In my shoes, just to see
What it's like, to be me
I'll be you, let's trade shoes
Just to see what it'd be like to
Feel your pain, you feel mine
Go inside each other's minds
Just to see what we find
Look at shit through each other's eyes
But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful, oh
They can all get fucked.
Just stay true to you
So don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
Oh, they can all get fucked.
Just stay true to you

I think I'm starting to lose my sense of humor
Everything is so tense and gloom
I almost feel like I gotta check the temperature in the room
Just as soon as I walk in
It's like all eyes on me
So I try to avoid any eye contact
'cause if I do that then it opens a door for conversation
Like I want that... I'm not looking for extra attention
I just want to be just like you
Blend in with the rest of the room
Maybe just point me to the closest restroom
I don't need no fucking man servant
Trying to follow me around and wipe my ass
Laugh at every single joke I crack
And half of them ain't even funny like
"Ha!, Marshall you're so funny man, you should be a comedian, god damn"
Unfortunately I am, but I just hide behind the tears of a clown
So why don't you all sit down?
Listen to the tale I'm about to tell
Hell, we don't gotta trade our shoes
And you ain't gotta walk no thousand miles

[Chorus]

But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
Oh They can all get fucked.
Just stay true to you so
Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
Oh They can all get fucked. Just stay true to you so

Nobody asked for life to deal us
With these bullshit hands we're dealt
We have to take these cards ourselves
And flip them, don't expect no help
Now I could have either just
Sat on my ass and pissed and moaned
Or take this situation in which I'm placed in
And get up and get my own
I was never the type of kid
To wait by the door and pack his bags
Who sat on the porch and hoped and prayed
For a dad to show up who never did
I just wanted to fit in
At every single place
Every school I went
I dreamed of being that cool kid
Even if it meant acting stupid

Aunt Edna always told me "Keep makin' that face it'll get stuck like that"
Meanwhile I'm just standin' there
Holdin' my tongue tryna talk like this
'Til I stuck my tongue on that frozen stop sign pole at 8 years old
I learned my lesson then cause I wasn't tryna impress my friends no more
But I already told you my whole life story
Not just based on my description
'cause where you see it from where you're sitting
Is probably 110% different
I guess we would have to walk a mile
In each other's shoes, at least
What size you wear? I wear tens
Let's see if you can fit your feet

[Chorus]

[Outro:]
Lately I've been hard to reach, I've been too long on my own
Everybody has a private world where they can be alone...
So are you calling me, are you trying to get through, oh?
Are you reaching out for me, I'm reaching out for you?
So oh oh

Yea... To my babies. Stay strong.
Daddy will be home soon
And to the rest of the world, god gave you the shoes
That fit you, so put 'em on and wear 'em
And be yourself, man, be proud of who you are
Even if it sounds corny,
Don't ever let no one tell you, you ain't beautiful

If you can't appreciate such a classic songs with lyrics, poetry, hook/harmonizing and message as classic as this it is very questinable why you listen to Eminem in the first place :(

Cheers wrote:Great poetic lyrics written perfectley to fit the theme of the song which was dealing with his depression and life, a really great Hook driven by suberb melody, a very good beat and sample and as you mentioned stong emotion. What more can you ask for? every aspect was covered so well to make it a classic song.

How are the lyrics poetic? Just because he's expressing how depressed he felt at the time doesn't mean it was "poetically written," that's such a huge exaggeration. But then again, you seem to exaggerate a lot of things: the hook, the beat, the melody, the sample. Chill the hell out, the song is mediocre at best.

If Lil Wayne released a song like this, would you love it? You probably would. Hell, if I wrote a couple shitty bars talking about my "struggle," you'd probably love that too.

What I don't understand is how you blow up this song but don't feel the same about "Deja Vu" :facepalm

Eminem wrote:Maybe just a nice cold brew, what's a beer
That's the devil in my ear, I been sober a fuckin' year
And that fucker still talks to me he's all I can fuckin' hear
Marshall, come on we'll watch the game, it's the Cowboys and Buccaneers
And maybe if I just drink half I'll be half buzzed
For half of the time, who's the mastermind behind that little line

Actually describing how things got so bad with his drug addiction. Now THAT is poetically written.

Eminem wrote:I'm just so fucking depressed I just can't seem to get out this slump

Lyrics like this have been said by many artists over and over again. There is honestly nothing special about saying you were in a bad spot and now you need a way out. I'm pretty sure a rappers like Budden and Copywrite have thousands of these songs, why aren't you giving them love?

EDIT: You shouldn't double post.

It's corny because he sounds like he's quoted sappy teenage movies. The hook screams pseudo-inspirational fat girl Facebook status beauty is on the inside bullshit. He wasn't capable of writing a good song at that time and this song isn't an exception.

Anyone can write a song like that. By technical rap standards it's horrible and it isn't deep at all. It's corny and played out.

This the thing that gets me though the people that don't like it here it seems like it's cos of fake macho pride. To me it's just a song i can play so much even today and enjoy and it came out 3 years ago so it stood the test of time I'm not gonna say it's brilliant and amazing if i genuibley didn't think so. So this makes it even so much harder why anyone who is a fan wouldn't like this song. You have to understand the people that really love this song are gonna be really puzzled how anyone could say a bad word about it. You tryna say it's not original but no 1 said it was all he did was pen his exact feelings what he felt like inside but the way he did just all i can say is theres a certain feeling when i listen to it those who love the song will understand it can't really be explained even in words it's just if you liked it you would understand.

Can't help but think this is for his mature fans judging by some of the really puzzling comments here but you like what you like i guess.

How are any of the comments here puzzling? We're explaining why this song isn't well written you haven't given us a legitimate rebuttal yet. Just because you can relate to it doesn't make it a good song lol. Pretty sure child molesters can relate to Bizzare.

Well see heres the thing everyone i come across not neccesarily just friends even random people but everyone outside the internet blogs/boards in the real word has never said anything people said in this thread about Beautiful not once person ever. Everyone outside the net loved the song. So this makes me think when it's all said and done Beautiful is going to be remembered as 1 of his best songs.

Basically i'll explain best i can The Lyrics to me cos of their message but how he put the words together yet sticking the concept but speaking from the heart yet everything rhyming him telling a life experience situation it just sounded good to me the lyrics moved me they stayed stuck in my head which actually only happens with songs i like.

It is 1 of the best hooks i ever heard it's the fact he put his soul and sung/harmonized so well in the hook it had soul yet what he still managed to make it sound catchy when i say catchy that is based on the hook stays stuck in ya head but it had soul too rather than just a catchy hook.

I liked his Delivery it was done so effortless it seems how he excecuted that message appealed to me it seemed mellow

Then you add all that with emotion but the rawst type of emotion like letting it all out releasing everything he went through it just felt kinda like this just my opinion but it's like if you didn't feel the emotion you not a human or you got no soul

how does that in any way answer what i wrote ? you wrote that the lyrics of beautiful are, and i quote "excellent", i gave you an anwser, and you say something that has nothing to do with what i was trying to tell you. it's a fact that beatiful has bad lyrics or let's say average lyrics, at best. you say just because its emotionally, that it's one of his best songs ? in the song "Kim" eminem shows more emotion in 5 bars than he does beautiful in 3 verses. you also wrote that the concept of beautiful is excellent, bro, de ja vu is basically the same fucking song just performed in a different way ...
you also said that it's one of his best songs ever .... i can name 10 songs on relapse that are better and have a better story than beautiful

Worst content/subject and replay value is Relapse though. Encore had some gems on it atleast 7-9 ill songs only thing reedming Relapse is Beautiful/Deja Vu and the bonus songs.

Nah Relapse is one of his most replayable albums to me due to the incredibly addictive rapping style. The beats are bombastic and his rapping is incredible. As for the subject-matter; it was total indulgence in character again and a step in the right direction; he lost himself in the writing and allowed for flights of fantasy as apposed to just documenting his struggle.

The flows on Relapse are so rhythmic and beautiful and the rhyming and lyricism is so rich and has such character, in spots he writes like a writer, it's... better.

And "Beautiful" wasn't a redeeming quality of Relapse, it, along with "Crack a Bottle" stops Relapse from being a top-to-bottom, brilliantly consistent album. It's out of place, out of character, out of style, out of sound, it ruins the album.

I agree about Relapse though I think Crack A Bottle is great and that it's only We Made You that ruins the sound of the album (I actually don't mind it as a stand alone song though). That and the fact that I can never understand why My Darling wasn't put on the album.

I think Encore was the worst for replay value, Recovery for beats and Relapse for delivery/subject matter. The others are flawless (not counting Infinite).

EDIT:

I like 'Beautiful' as a song because of how raw it sounds kind of similar to how I feel about 'Difficult''. I have however always thought it was over rated in how people think it "saved" relapse, its not that well written but it is meant to just be raw in my opinion.

I don't know, maybe I'd say Infinite, even though it's not in the list.

I don't understand why people voted for MMLP? That's great album.. For me worst beat production is in Recovery and maybe worst lyrics are in Encore. But i like Encore more than Recovery, so Recovery is worst Eminem's album for me.
