Yeah, knowing how much Valium he was eating, I'm not surprised he was completely out of it for 4 years. I'm kind of surprised that the withdrawals didn't kill him. I know he said he had a seizure, and that's consistent with benzodiazepine/barbiturate withdrawal. That shit can kill you.

Which is why I never understand the fascination with those drugs. They slow you down, produce little to no euphoria, make it impossible to think, put you to sleep, and are the most dangerous drugs to get physically dependent on. Seriously, what the fuck?

It was the mind state he was in. His best friend had just died, he wasn't thinking about feeling happy. All he wanted at that point was to die.

I haven't read much of the thread so forgive me if this has already been brought up: was he on two different sets of drugs with SSLP then Relapse? You could easily say the drugs he was taking in the SSLP/MMLP era were helping his writing ability.

I believe what Abram said on the first page is true. Taking drugs during the SSLP/MMLP era was to induce a certain feeling or emotion - and of course have a good time. So I guess the drugs helped him come up with crazy concepts for songs, but he was still capable of writing like he did during his prime sober.

So sick of this shit.

Drugs ruined Eminem. When he talks about his addictions, he's not talking about smoking a blunt with his homies or popping an ecstasy tablet with Dr. Dre.

He's talking about the post-8 mile problems after he was introduced to Ambien and started popping Vicodin, Valium, and methadone along with it, washing it all down with booze.

Eminem was doing none of that stuff when he was rapping circles around everyone.

Methadone is motherfucking vicious. The first few times are like heaven on earth, then it's almost exactly like heroin from that point.

He's lucky that he overdosed on the methadone, and didn't get a steady supply of it and get all strung out. Methadone is a nasty fucking drug.

You know, thinking about how dependent he was on Benzos though, it makes sense that he was so "off" over a year after he got clean. The withdrawals themselves are awful, but people that are dependent on them for as long as he was have to wait for their brain chemistry to return to normal, and that can take months or even years.
